Updates On Sheridan Shooters

The 911 callers are doing their jobs and calling in whenever they hear gunfire. The cops are making arrests. As a CAPS sergeant pointed out, now it's up to the community to show up in court when these guys go to trial. UU will publish the court dates as they become available.
  • From Lake Effect News: "Police apprehended a 25-year-old man believed to be responsible for a shooting on the 4700 block of North Sheridan Road on early Sunday morning, Nov. 15." Read the whole story here and see where he lives. (Ald. Shiller will be surprised, given her recent statements.)

  • At Beat 2312's CAPS meeting on Tuesday, we learned more about the shootings on November 7th. Of the five people arrested in connection with the incident, one was Corteze Reed, who, if guilty, is obviously a slow learner. He'd just been released from jail for a previous shooting incident at the very same place, which happened last February just as kids from Alternatives were getting out for the evening. What an accomplishment for someone who's not even old enough to legally drink yet. One of the other people arrested is now eligible to be a Class X offender, which carries additional penalties and longer sentencing.

We will post the trial dates for everyone involved in these incidents, as the information becomes available to us. We urge everyone to express their outrage and concern by showing up in court if you can. Typing or texting on UU, while we love it, isn't going to influence the judge, but your presence in court may very well do it.

  1. Sentenced to two years in July and out in November of the same year?

  2. I am SHOCKed that such an individual lives in our community.

    It must be a typo.

After all Alderman Shiller said the criminals don't live in Uptown.

They just visit because our community is so picturesque.

  3. I would love to stand up for these court trials, but unfortunately I work in the West Loop during the times when they occur. Would it be helpful to create a Google Group or other email group for people who are available to go the trials? It would be great for people who work near the court and can attend during the day, or people with flexible schedules, or people who are currently unemployed. That way they could communicate with each other and ensure that at least a handful of people go.

  4. Shiller lives in our ward some would say how she handled the Wilson Yard TIF would be considered criminal.

  5. Well gosh, it's comforting to know that the shooter lives 2 blocks north of me...even an animal knows better than to sh_t where he sleeps......

  6. Larry, I shudder to think who lives nearby.

  7. I love the passive voice: "He'd just been released..." I'll ask the unaskable: "Who released him?" Lawyers (who, by the way, include Judges) who release people like him do so with impunity. Wouldn't it be wonderful if lawyers were provided with a little motivation to make the right decisions? I would suggest that lawyers who release violent criminals who subsequently commit violent crimes have their licenses revoked, but I don't want to "offend" the poor, victimized readers--so I won't suggest it.

  8. Joey, there ain't no predicting. My brother after 17 years of prosecuting the worst of the worst here in our fine city was forced out in April for questioning a judge's rulings. Now if only these idiots would only prey on their own kind with no residual damage to society at large...
