Welcome To Uptown!

A reader writes: "Looks like the Selam Meat Market is open for business on Sheridan, just north of Argyle. Yesterday was their first day and they had a display full of various beef cuts and will be adding goat and lamb starting Monday. It’s a little sparse in there at the moment but the owner is very friendly and I think very excited to be open."

But wait, there's more! A reader sends this photo of what's coming next to the storefront next to Magnolia Cafe on Wilson:

  1. I am sorry to share that the Golf Store at the corner of Leland and Sheridan has officially closed...lets hope something great goes in there....

  2. In addition to Unique So Chique and the golf store, I've noticed Breakaway Sports is gone, too, and I haven't seen Monticchio open much lately.

Support your local businesses, folks! Or else we'll lose them. Sadly, some have already fallen victim to the economy and lack of community support.

  3. We need to support that place on Wilson for sure.

  4. A friend of mine told me that Monticchio is already closed down. That's unfortunate, but it was in a difficult location.

  5. Darn! I had been meaning to check out Monticchio but I guess day-late dollar-short. As always, "locationlocationlocation" probably had a lot to do with it. Not because it was in "Uptown" per se, but because it was hard for drivers to see from the street (so less chance of "impulse buying") and the expected neighborhood of Kinetic, etc. people who would be prime customers has not yet materialized. And the folks across the street were not exactly the prime demographic for food-for-non-vampires...

  6. Hopefully this place will do well. I also hope that the woman I saw there this past weekend (I'm not sure if she is the tenant, related to the tenant or just someone who was helping out) doesn't continue to smoke and litter the sidewalk with her cigarettes. It's a small thing, but it is still annoying when people treat my neighborhood and home like a dumpster.
