Missing Your Cat?

A reader wrote in tonight to say that he saw a very affectionate cat outside his home, mostly black, and busily engaged chasing moths. He doesn't think it's a stray, due to it being so friendly. If you are missing your moggie, please write to UU at uptownupdate@hotmail.com and describe your missing cat. If it's a match, we'll send you the information he sent us so you can go to the area where the cat was seen this evening.

  1. Where is the cat in question hanging out? There is a black and white, very young looking cat, who is front declawed that has been wandering around the 800-900 block of Ainslie the last couple of days. I know that a number of people are trying to catch her. She seems to be very friendly and hungry. My wife and I spent about an hour doing our best impression of the crocodile hunter trying to catch her and I'm sure my wife is still out there now. If we caught her we were going to take her to a local shelter (probably Harmony House if they have room), but if this is someones cat please reply back in this forum to let me know. Thanks

  2. That's not the one in question, but good luck catching her. I hope you find her owner. Did you try Craigslist?

  3. Yes - the one on Ainslie (800-900 block) has been hanging around for the past week at least. Looks like someone's pet to me, but no tags or anything to help identify an owner. It's black and white, seems very friendly.

  4. You may also want to call Treehouse. They may be able to send someone out to help catch the kitty especially since it is declawed.

  6. I just heard that the cat was in a couple peoples grasp but was able to get away. A bunch of people have traps out to try and get it. I did call the number in here and that cat is a male with all four claws but they said they would appreciate a call if someone does catch it just to be sure.

  7. My husband and I live at 933 W Ainslie St. We first spotted the black and white female cat on August 30th. For about a week, we were feeding her twice daily and trying to befriend her. I tried picking her up three times, but each time she'd freak out and scratch me as she struggled to get away. The last time she bit me too. I spent the afternoon at Weiss Hospital getting treatment for the wounds. At that point, we aquired a large humane trap from a fellow cat lover, set it up, and ever since that time the cat has been soliciting food from at least two other people down the block. It's a smart cat. At this point, I'm tired of the runaround. If someone else can catch her, get her scanned for a microchip, and spayed/neutered that would be great. (Please let me know if you want to borrow the trap I have. I have it at my disposal until next week.) You can take her to PAWS or the Anti-Cruelty Society for these services. I called all the area shelters earlier this week but they are all full. You could try to place her in a home yourself or rerelease her in the neighborhood. More than a week ago, we posted an ad on Craigslist and emailed all the area block clubs but no one has claimed her. I have some pictures of her too if you need one.

  8. I've seen the cat twice, as well. The first was in the morning last last Tuesday I believe it was. It looked as if its home was in the 820(?) building on Ainslie, and I didn't think anything of it at the time. The second time was on the following Sunday. We were walking out of our complex on Margate, and the kitty had purred and followed us all the way down to Buttercup Park. I was able to kneel down and it rubbed up against me. It didn't have a collar/tags. We were going to take it home and see if we could find its owner, but when we tried to pick it up, it freaked out and ran across the street. We do not think it was front-declawed though...?

  9. I just heard that the cat was caught near the Argyle red line stop. She's apparently very sweet. The girl who's temporarily housing her would like to find her a new home. If anyone is interested in adopting her, I can put you in contact. If not, the cat will be named "Sunny Side Up" and admitted to Tree House when a space opens up for her.
