Chava and Blue Ocean Opening Soon At Clark & Leland

A reader sends in the following pic and info:

"Thought you would be interested to know that the future business you featured a while back in the ground level retail space of Vis Vitae at Clark & Leland is moving along. I took a photo of the interior. I really like the flooring they put down.

Eddie Hwang and his business partner own "Chava." Eddie says he hopes to be open in a few weeks. There's also a new restaurant next door to that -- which will be named "Blue Ocean." It's a large space painted in blues and purples. It will feature Japanese cuisine with a nice lounge."

  1. Yesssssss! Since my wife and I bought a condo on Leland a little over a year ago, I was excited about Uptown. i had a good feeling about this neighborhood. As if Carol's, Thai on Clark and El Ranchito weren't enough to make me happy as a clam with entertainment and food, I now have a cafe and Japanese cuisine within walking distance. I love it. I'll take the trade for Blockbuster.

  3. I'm so confused, I thought this building was still in the 46th ward. But since their isn't ANOTHER Currency Exchange/ Nail Salon / Mobile Phone / Dime/Liquor store going in these store fronts I Must be wrong!!

This Rocks, is this what life outside the 46th is like ?

  5. I believe you hit on an interesting point Uptown Pits. How can so many new businesses pop up right across the street from the 46th. It is almost like someone here in the 46th ward works to keep businesses out, or makes life so hard for them that they leave. I see this taking place on the borders of all three sides.

Of course we all know that new business can only mean one thing "Gentrafication" which is bad!

  7. I think WCE is smoking crack again. Oh well. This is GREAT news... since Rainbo to the north won't get any retail in there until the project is brought out of bankruptcy, Vis Vitae has to pick up the slack, which they clearly are! Also, Library, you forgot Tiztal Cafe and the soon to open Fame de Lupo next to Carol's!! How exciting!!!! Anyone have any bites on what they plan to do with the old Blockbuster site?

  8. WCE is referring to the picketing that took place when Unique So Chique and Starbucks opened by the Shiller people. I'm sure he is being sarcastic.

  9. So true...Uptown Veg. I could have sworn I read somewhere about all of the new business that Helen has brought to the 46th ward. Only if you count developers and contractors who she deals with privately. Any new business that comes here is always directly across the street from the ward. Would the Borders building have been developed and the new restaurants on the west side of Broadway and Lawrence come if they were not located just out of Helen's ward??? I can imagine the obstacles Fresh Harvest Market must have gone through to open their doors.

  10. Ding Ding, thats the sarcasm bell.

Nothing says "Welcome to the Neighborhood" and "We're glad you're here" like a nice little protest.

I'm sending Gene an email to demand another methadone clinic. Did you know there aren't ANY methadone clinics on Clark Street? And he calls himself and Alderman.

  11. Windy

I got it, though sarcasm is my second language (and yes I do speak it in my dreams).

For all others who grew up in functional households Windy was making reference to the greeting Starbucks got when they opened.

Windy don't worry I have an in with Schulters people I'll make sure the city opens a drain and rips up the sidewalk in front of both business's as a welcome to the neighborhood gift.

  12. I can't believe that people picketed when Unique So Chique was opened. Well those people should be happy because Robert, the owner, is taking restaurant/store elsewhere.

Can't wait to see what kind of retail will be on Broadway in the Wilson Yards.
