Wonders Never Cease

A reader sends in the following pic and info:
I just passed by the famous Wilson Broadway Mall in our Wilson L station and noticed that someone was outside on the Wilson side painting! It's brown, but anything is an improvement over the neon blue that was there before. They had only painted one section but we can only hope the rest will be painted...even the back entrance! Good news. Someone must be taking your CTA list to task.

  1. You are incorrect, sir. It is the World Famous Wilson Broadway Mall!

  2. Neon blue > brown. But I may be biased. I just dyed my hair from brown to blue two days ago...

  3. Candice you truly are inspirational.

I am so glad that "World Famous Mall" is looking good. Now I can hold my head up high as I go in and use their "internet cafe" to check all the happenings on my favorite site......wait for it...wait...wait... Uptown Update!

    Cue the Music!

  4. Not my favorite choice of color, Ghetto Brown, to paint a building but at least its a improvement over the old Shillertown blue. Anything is better then nothing when it comes to making Uptown a resepctful looking area.......

  5. Painting over terra cotta - stupid. They should have striped all the paint down to the original surface, but that would have meant doing a good job.

Oh well, at least its not that ugly blue.

  6. As one who Bleeds Cubbie Blue, I'll take any shade of that color over any shade of anything else!

    Brown is a "down."

  7. Taking a bulldozer to this structure would have been far more effective.

  8. I hope everyone bought their "Pimp Zone: Violators Will Be Bitch Slapped" t-shirts while they had the chance.

  9. Candice's looney observations aside (is she the new 'Kenny'?) Any cosmetic improvements on this very odd strip, is appreciated.
While it's 'cute' to have a 'punky and subversive' attitude regarding Uptown's problems, it is more important to offer up solutions. While quite minor, I realize, I for one, pick up trash, plant flowers, and generally do whatever cosmetic upgrades I can do, up here.

  10. If brown offends the HGTV-obssessed crowd so much, perhaps they might volunteer their talents, and offer a color-wheel consultation to the proprietors.

  11. I am laughing so hard, Candice. We crossed paths on Montrose on Thursday. I said to my companion, "I wonder if that's Candice? Maybe I should go and introduce myself", but I didn't want to make a fool of myself if it wasn't you. Anyway, love the neon blue. More credit to you. I had one bad episode with "Sun-In" and that was it for any hair changes for me...

  12. actually its a store called culture clash moving in the store front area and they decided that if they were gonna move there, they had to paint the outside and inside of their store, put a door and then put a sign on the top..the store is looking pretty good now..maybe it will encourage more business
