Sheridan/Lawrence Cop Car Convergence

We're not sure what's going on, but a reader tells us there are approximately 30 police cars gathered at Lawrence and Sheridan. Please add details in the comments.

Update: One of our Men in Blue tells us the event concerned a person with a gun at the Prologue School graduation at the Peoples Temple. Happy ending: the gun was recovered and the offender was taken into custody.

  3. It's really is free donut day but that doesn't explain the four plain clothes cops hanging out on Kenmore and Lawrence along side of the Lawrence House around 1:30 today. Or the eight, yes eight, bicycle cops at the intersection of Kenmore and Ainslie yesterday afternoon. Two on each corner with fistfulls of blank tickets.

  4. Besides the free donuts I hope its something that has valued effect for that area like a raid on the gangs or drug-heads but its probabaly just a cause for the Salvation army donut day.....

  5. I drove past there around 1, and there were several unmarked cars, but I didn't see anything else.

  6. The four plainclothes cops are still there. I'm kicking myself because I just missed all the action. As I crossed Sheridan and Lawrence, at about noon, I did somehow get the feeling that something was about to happen. I shrugged it off and went to the store. As soon as I came out, cop cars were coming from all directions.

  8. all donut day jokes aside (yes, very good timing jason!), i for one want to sincerely thank the cops and their prompt response to whatever is going on. (and before anyone makes the suggestion, i do make a point of doing so in person at caps meetings and on the street on a regular basis.) we need a strong law enforcement presence to let the gangs know they do not own our neighborhood. the warm afternoon promises to be exciting in schillertown.

  12. Last night around 9, there were 5 cop cars and about 15 cops hanging out in the Pollo Loco parking lot on Wilson and Sheridan. Perhaps just increased presence?

  14. Prologue. Hell's training academy for street thugs thrown out of the
    CPS system.
How can they "Graduate"when the "Teachers" are not accedited?

  15. Prolog is more of a GED prep than a real school. Prolog knew trouble was coming and requested police help before graduation ended, which was going to end around 12:30. There has been a problem between rival gangs for a few days leading up to the graduation. Quick action by the police took a gun and a bad guy off the streets. I remember when it was next to the "el" on Lawrence and the problems it caused. Then it move to Irving and LSD for a while. I'm not sure where the classes are being held now.

  16. iowakid: If only.....Shawn Gaston, the shooter of Officer Valadez, was convicted of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon last year. abc news link.

According to Anita Alvarez last month, Illinois lawmakers turned down a bill her office had drafted that targeted known gang members. It would have escalated felony charges to a level that would not allow probation.

  17. God love Uptown's police officers. I'm used to the squad cars slowly slinking their way down the Malden/Magnolia alley.
Luckily tonight, it was just a 'friendly' fireworks battle between neighbors.

    Actually, the latest alley goings-on?
People that insist on throwing tonight's dinner, OR loaded diapers into the alley. Savage and gross.

  19. Uplift H.S was having their graduation ceremony at the Peoples Church. A 15 year old intent on shooting someone in broad daylight tried to crash the party. During the ensuing foot chase he tossed a gun into the bushes shortly before his arrest.
