Can't Make It To Chase Park?

Try paddling over to that perennial favorite de facto swimming hole, Clarendon and Lakeside, for the wacky water fun! The reader who submitted this photo, taken after last night's torrential rains, says: "Bonus: in the winter, it becomes an ice rink."

  1. Is this a parking lot, a street, or an alley? Addittional info please....

  2. Such flooding is natural when a huge amount of rain falls in a very short time period. I can imagine that later today we'll see pictures (or TV clips) of motorists whose cars "drowned" when they drove through a highway underpass during the downpour.

  3. That bit of Lakeside, between Clarendon and Marine - adjacent to Walgreens, is a public street with slanted public parking.

I saw Streets and San fixing the curb when the weather broke; but, there appears to still be an underlying issue with proper drainage.

Oh, and the LSD underpasses! Don't even want to THINK about the trouble there.

  5. It's nice to know that water drainage was carefully considered by the developer of the new Weiss/Walgreens building and parking lot. Jeeeez...
A heavy rain is one thing, but this is a sign of careless planning. I don't recall the runoff problem being this bad before the new building went up.

  6. As more buildings are built up the older sewer systems just cannot handle it. I guess city street workers will have a secure job for many years to come.......

  7. Hey man, at least its water. The block that we live on had sewage pouring out of their toilets. The sewage systems just can't hold everyone, yet we keep adding more.

I called the water department, but they don't really seems to care. If you hear about a mysterious man dying of dysentery, you'll know the fate of WindyCityEagle.

  9. I know of several buildings built in Helen's ward one I live in where the developer was not required to properly grade the project so that water goes into the storm sewers properly.

Yes the system is old but it also hasn't been upgraded in years.

But all those flowers Daley plants and other bs he spends money make people forget about what they can't see i.e. the poor old outdated sewer system.

People will never see him for what he is.

  11. After much research, we've found that our problem was due to a collapsed sewer line, which cause all our sewage to backup when we got the rain.

Unfortunately, we can't get a crew out here to fix it, and rain is on the way this Thursday.

But hey, I might be able to get some sweet fencing tickets in 2016, so thats cool.

  14. Windy City Eagle, did you ever find out where the collapsed sewer line occurred? We live near Lawrence and Broadway and had sewage in our basement too.
