  2. Gee, if he only had a "safe wall" to paint on, Uptown would be free of all graffiti.

    [/sarcasm]

  3. It is a good thing we have outlawed spray paint in Chicago, it put an end to all vandalism. Now if we just get those damn plastic baggies outlawed we will be drug free as well. Hooray for useless laws!

  4. Wilson Ave -

don't forget how lucky we are that Daley banned hand guns in the city.

That certainly put an end to all of that annoying gun violence.

  5. I suppose you think laws against murder are useless as well. After all, it still happens.

  6. I was gonna say... didn't we go over this a few weeks ago? I would like to see what he painted, if it was a gang symbol, or just his "name"

  7. Aw, but I wanted to see what he painted!

  8. So I've watched these video's (which are hilarious) for a week now- has the filmmaker taken the footage to the police yet? Any response?

  9. It was a friggin' maple leaf in an igloo surrounded by polar bears playing rock music Candice. Happy?

  10. I work near there, What he painted was the name REB and it was removed pretty quickly. Oh and the police have shown no interest in any footage "unless someone is killed", which I don't think has happened on Clifton in a while, perhaps because of people like uptownsmostwanted...

  11. Have you people seen the same videos that I have. What a the police supposed to do with it well after the fact. No close up of faces. How are the offenders going to be identified.

What the video maker should do is allow the police to watch in real time. Call the 23rd district tact office and offer your location for surveillance. An office can watch the cameras and radio in the crimes as they happen.

I believe this used to be a common practice. Now very few people are willing to allow the police into their home or vacant apartments. I guess that comes with converting apartments into condos. A Lot of drug dealers were arrested around Sheridan/Windsor/Hazel and at Sheridan/Leland using un-rented apartments 10 years ago.

  12. So that's "REB." Little bastard's been putting his tag all over my block. Good to know what he looks like. Just sayin'...

Not that this skunk isn't thrown into the fray enough, but what would apartment to condo conversion have to do with occupants volunteering to relax their civil rights so the police may borrow their property as a point of surveillance?

Nadmenny: Maybe this is just my misunderstanding of your point. Help me out.

  14. didn't we go over this a few weeks ago? I would like to see what he painted, if it was a gang symbol, or just his "name"Does it really matter? It's illegal (unless the owner of the building said he could do that, which I doubt). Arrest him.

  15. I'm not speaking for nadmenny Brennan, but I interepreted it to mean there used to be more concientious apartment manaqement which willing helped to keep their neighborhood safe by allowing the authorities to use vacant apartments. And by-the-bye, if I choose to invite the police to my home how are my civil rights being "relaxed"? I would think that inviting who I wanted to my home is a civil right. Nowhere did anyone suggest the city "take over" a private residence.

  16. I'm not speaking for nadmenny but I think he is referring to a time when there were a lot more vacant apartments available.

I'm also guessing he is referring to Operation Uptown where approximately 44 residents of Uptown were arrested during a drug sting.

  18. I realize there is nothing huge in the videos that are being shown, but it causes me concern for our police department. There is more than enough evidence showing this portion of this street to be more affected by hoodlums than some others. Why do the cops in this city INSIST on reactionary tactics to solving crime and consistently avoid proactive methods? They recently voted "no confidence" in Jody Weiss, how much confidence are we supposed to have in them when they dismiss such concerns from the community. This neighborhood is working awfully hard here, the least they could do is acknowledge it gracefully. And maybe use the information proactively.

  19. Yes all I was trying to convey is that when Uptown was mostly apartments it was easier for the police to conduct surveillance. And there was way more drug dealers around.

As for proactive police work. Just listen to a scanner. The amount of calls the police have to respond to leave little time to be proactive.

The other day the police brass said that a car is sent to 60% of 911 calls. In other large cities it's more like 30%. So the problem is there in not enough officers or there needs to be a better filter at the 911 center.

  20. Here is the Suntimes article
police 911 callsI know you don't like hearing this but the 23rd district has relatively low crime. Gang teams no longer work the area unless there is a gang related killing. If you don't believe me listen to other districts on a scanner or check everyblock.

If you want more police working the 23rd district you need more crime first. That's just the way it is.

  21. I don't think anyone would or could disagree with you on low crime in the 23rd Police District. The 23rd Police District extends well into the Lincoln Park neighborhood as well. What many of us have found is that there are pockets of high crime areas within the 23rd Police District, and those tend to be in Uptown.

In the entire area of the 23rd Police District, there are only 2 areas deemed to be hot spots because of high gang activity. Those two areas are just blocks apart from one another and I wonder if you can guess the neighborhood? I'll give you a hint: It's not Lincoln Park or Lakeview. However, a certain alderman doesn't like hearing about that.

  22. There are 3 sectors in the 23rd District: the 10th, 20th, and 30th. The 10th sector is located in Uptown and it has the vast majority of crimes of battery for the 23rd District. So while the 23rd District is safe, it's the 10th sector within the 23rd Police District that has the disproportionate amount of violent crime.

  23. At least they don\'t have to go far for \"graff supplies.\" Look at the bottom entry. A "streak" is the paint markers the vandals use to tag.

  24. I left a comment the other day on the Crack Danube post concerning "everybody's" favorite journalist Carol Marin whom I contacted concerning that exact shelter as she was writing about heroin in Chicago. The shelter was then run by gang-bangers under contract to a Christian group. I will repost part of what I wrote here:

"You would think that a journalist like Marin would jump on a story involving gangs, drugs, a Christian group and possibly the political powers that be in Uptown and sadly, you would be wrong. Ms. Marin's response told me that she had no interest in stirring that pot and to date I have not seen such a report from her. It's going to take videographers with a sense of humor like uptownsmostwanted, the blogger(s) here at UU and the public to get some of this news out far enough so that the Tribunes and NBCs of our town are forced to recognize what some Chicago politicians are allowing under their (her) noses."

Let me be clear, if you are reading this blog Carol Marin and the rest of Chicago's pathetic journalists do not give a rat's ass about you. Bleeding heart losers don't live in East Uptown ("we went to Magnolia last weekend - what a cute spot!"). They would rather make things nice for the crack-whores, in order to help some serious guilt problems - what exactly HAVE those people been doing that they need to make your life miserable in order to make themselves feel good?

As to Ms. Marin and the rest of the media tools, who here expects those types of people to go after a homeless shelter or a good "progressive" (read: reactionary) like the wonderful Alderwoman Shiller?

Another occasional commenter and I spoke to Laura Washington (Sun Times, In These Times) several years ago at a charity event, the conversation concerned James Cappleman's then upcoming Aldermatic run. She and her husband love Helen Shiller, "she does SO much for the poor!" That Ladies and Gentlemen is what Uptown is up against, the screwed-up guilt problems of poorly educated hacks. Let those losers know about this whenever you see them.
