JJ Peppers Robbed At Gunpoint?

A reader writes in who was listening to a police scanner last night around 8:30pm:
"JJ Peppers (at Lawrence & Sheridan) was just robbed a gunpoint (Monday night). The robbery victim is losing consciousness so an ambulance is now required. The perps are three black males who fled to Lawrence and Winthrop."

  1. I'm sure the police camera at Lawrence and Sheridan caught it all on video...DOH!

  2. Funny thing is that I thought all these police cameras around the city are suppose to help detect and alert police to unusual activity? At least that is what the City sold us some time ago, but that this is just like the many other projects of the city.

  3. Any update? I think JJ Peppers needs to employ some private security. That entire intersection is such an unsafe eyesore. I literally zig-zag when I want to cross it to get East on Lawrence.

  4. Cameras don't do anything it foot soldiers on the ground that stop crime.

  5. Any more details on what happened? Was the worker shot/injured? I hope they're doing OK.

  6. I think I echo several others when I say the camera at Lawrence & Winthrop is misplaced. It should be moved 2 blocks east.

  7. I know jj's had an off duty police officer there last summer, from my understanding it costs upwards of $20/hr.

  8. Just arm the JJ Pepers staff with guns.

Criminals would think twice if there was a chance they might also face a gun.

  9. R - that's exactly the kind of argument gun-rights advocates use for letting people carry concealed, but it falls on deaf ears.

  10. TOC & R - you're assuming that criminals think. that's a BIG assumption.

it'd be a case of who can shoot/get shot first.

  11. They all should have armed guards that are in plain view of all those who enter. The cost is high but how high is the cost of a dead employee or customer......

  12. Uptown Math

How many Tall Boys of Malt Liquor an hour does JJ Peppers need to sell in an hour to pay for the armed security guard?

  13. I am all for the right to carry a gun and own guns.

Why should only the criminals have them?

Criminals will always get guns and gun control doesn't work

  14. The problem is that Chicago/Illinois politics are pretty much on lock step with Democrat policies. This includes making gun owners out as crazy, right wingers and limiting the 2nd amendment.

As long as you keep voting in Daley this is what you'll get...

  15. This is not confirmed! I asked a few of Chicago's Finest last night, and they were unaware of any crime committed. I was also unable to locate any reports on 'traditional' news sources (ABC/CBS, etc).

  16. I was at JJ Pepper last night and asked one of the employees about the incident. He said a lot of people had come in asking the same thing, but that it was "misinformation" and that nothing had happened. He wasn't sure how the story started.
