Paging Colonel Sanders!

Could KFC possibly do a worse job than the City of Chicago at filling potholes?

Unbelievably, the pothole "solution" in Uptown seems to involve stuffing heavy metal garbage cans in the deepest holes. These two can be seen at Clark and Wilson in front of Staples (above), and at Irving Park and Broadway (below).

  1. the worst part is that having the trashcan at irving and broadway really helped with the level of trash on the street and it was just plain convenient! sadly, now that it has been in the hole for a week or more, all the metal ribs have been broken on one side...so either it's going to look terrible or it's going to get removed

  2. Good grief! That *enormous* sinkhole at IP & BW has been there for at least a month, too! It was there before I moved, and I moved three weeks ago!

  3. Its stories like this that help grow the anti-olympic movement in the this city.

If you can't take care of your own streets, then you don't have the time or money to go hosting the olympics. The city should focus on doing its job rather than entertaining foreign officials.

  4. Time to get that stimulus money to work. Hire people looking for work and get them on the streets so that all of these issues that plague our neigborhoods time after time, can be resolved. Let's get to work on the infastructure.

  5. What's depicted is a sewer cave-in, not a pot hole. CDOT continues to fill what is reported to 311 and the Alderman's office. But it is DWM that is responsible for the sewer cave-ins. Drive around the city, you'll see them all over. Thankfully, DWM usually places cones and tape rather than garbage cans in the holes.

  6. I wonder why the Wilson Yard TIF doesn't pay for that? Isn't that what was supposed to have qualified the area for a TIF in the first place?
