The Fast & The Furious

A reader writes in:

"Any chance you or your readers know who drives a Ford Explorer with vanity plates that read "46th Ward?"

I was going to write you a few weeks ago because I noticed a man driving this vehicle on Irving Park at Southport, carelessly cutting off cars to get ahead of traffic. But then this past Monday morning at about 5:30 a.m. my husband was on his way to the airport and saw the same car going 60 mph down Irving Park (his cab was going 50 mph and this guy was going faster than the cab). I just think it's interesting that we've witnessed two separate incidents where this guy was driving recklessly in the past month. I'm not sure if he thinks he can get away with it since his license plate reads "46th Ward" and anyone who pulls him over would have to deal with the wrath of Helen, but I would ask him to set a good example for the ward he represents and slow down!"

  1. Some people will do anything avoid being ticketed.

  2. Hmm, Green Giant, that's a very LAWYER-ly thing to say.

    ::: connecting dots :::

  3. Wow I am very interested to find out who that is. Given how active people who visit this blog are, my guess is we find out who owns that car very soon!

    I guess they could not find a cleaver way to fit I AM IMPORTANT AROUND HERE DON'T YOU DARE BOTHER ME on an Illinois plate.

  4. Could it be Don Nowatny - 46th Ward Streets and Sanitation Superintendant? He drives a white - taxpayer funded - Ford Explorer. Never looked at the plates though.

  5. I'm not trying to be snarky but I'd like to know what a ward superindendant does? Also, I'd like to know how much this position makes and the reasons why it is in the taxpayers interest to pay for a vehicle that can be used outside ward boundaries?

  6. You may have already done this, however, if not you can always call 911 and report reckless driving. Give them the vehicle description and license plate. They can run the plate and find the person. Agree to press charges and leave your name.
