Until about 25 years ago the southbound Evanston Express (Purple Line) used to take that side track shown in the left of that photo and man was that thing rickety.
I'm often on the Red Line in the mornings with an operator who stops at Belmont and announces "change here for the Evanston Express and Ravenswood lines."
Isn't that confusing to someone unfamiliar with the train system?
Also, some of those tracks belonged to a commuter line (similar to the South Shore) that went back & forth to Milwaukee several times a day. I found some old brochures in my mom's attic that described the comfortable seating, on-board meals, etc. I think it stopped some time in the 1960s.

ReplyDeleteIs that not the same purple line track used today? I know around this time there was some track reconfiguration.
