We've been hearing lots of fire sirens tonight, starting around 6:45pm. A reader tells us there are three firetrucks in front of the Argyle Apartment building (850 W. Argyle), and firemen and police standing in front of the building, but no fire is visible. It appears the residents aren't being evacuated, but are staying in their apartments. Anyone got any further information?
Update: A reader writes: "The situation is serious. I walked downstairs and found out that there was a fire. I saw paramedics pushing someone out the building on a stretcher. I saw a fireman in an apartment on the 3rd floor with a hose.
The entire block on Argyle from Sheridan to Marine had several fire trucks, vans, ambulances and cop cars parked on the street. Some were parked on Sheridan and Marine Drive. Buses were backing up on both streets.
I saw some guys on the street filming the event and taking photos."
Two fire trucks outside near Leland and Beacon, same situation, 10:00PM.
ReplyDeleteThere was a small fire in a unit on the 5th floor. One resident was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. The damage was limited to only the unit in which the fire started.
