Dominick's Buys Motel Next To Store On Foster

    This all sounds pretty promising and a rather good "deal" for the developers. And no TIF funds needed! The only thing I am concerned about is that area will now be very dense and high given what is happening with the Admiral.

  2. This is all clearly a lie. We know that its impossible for any development to occur in this area without a massive subsidy from the government. The area is blighted, and without such funds no development would happen.

    Wake up people, this is a just a trick created by those FWY people to further their case.

    Makes total sense to me. Billyjoe would also add that this area--right near the lakefront--isn't nearly as "blighted" as some people might have you believe.

  5. Interesting anecdote about that motel: Back in the 1970's I was acquainted with a rock group from England (long story, nothing naughty, too bad) who were booked for a show at the Aragon. Their manager, apparently not familiar with the neighborhood and wanting to save money, booked them into that motel for the day/night of the show. After a quick look-see the band said "nothing doing, mate" and insisted that they get rooms at a more upscale downtown location.
    I wonder if, in the ensuing decades, any other traveling performers got booked there...

    Perhaps revenue dropped because a woman was beaten to death and stuffed in a closet.

    I live two blocks south of the "murder lodge" and will be glad to see it go. That Dominick's is pretty pathetic too. Even though it's closer to me I usually head to Jewel.

  10. The woman who was beaten to death and stuffed naked into a closet was named Maratta Walker and she stayed for a time at the halfway house on Sheridan & Argyle.

  11. Blighted? Ever look at the worlds largest 4 plus one complex on the south east corner? The only thing holding that place up is the rat turds and the cockroach piss. The Kahn building is disgusting.

  13. Dominicks bought the property with their own funding. That corner screams for something new and shny and we deserve a new grocery store. If they do get "government" funding so what. As long as it benefits the area, have at it.

    How come no one ever says it will provide labor jobs for several years during the construction phase.

    There won't be density we'll just run over all the seniors jay walking from the Admiral, that will solve that problem.

    Ok everything solved, start the construction.

  14. I was told by a manager at the Dominick's that a highrise was going to be built in the footprint of the existing Dominick's store.
