...by historic landmarks, that is. Check out how many Uptown buildings are considered historic landmarks by the city of Chicago here. Also, we highly suggest taking a walk (once the weather improves) through Graceland Cemetery. There you can find historic Uptown treasures like the Louis Sullivan designed Getty tomb shown here on the left.
That must be a really great place to check out because people are dying to get in there......
ReplyDeleteIt's noisy, though...because of all the coffin.
ReplyDeletedeep burial vaults make.....good neighbors.....
ReplyDeleteWow you guys are all so punny today. Watch out, they arrest you and put in you a punitentiary!!! :)
ReplyDeleteFor those of you who have never experienced the splendor of Graceland I suggest you take a long walk through the grounds.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful throughout the year. Even on a snowy day like today.
When I meet my inevitable demise I hope to be cremated at the Graceland Crematoria so my smoke can permeate the neighborhood. My ashes of course will be spread in Lake Michigan off a water intake crib. That way people may partake of my sugary goodness.
When I am walking down Montrose I always sneak a peak over the wall at Daniel Burnham's grave site.
ReplyDeleteIt always inspires me and reminds me of what a great vision can accomplish. My favorite places in Chicago are the buildings he designed.
I'm getting a little tired of the sidewalk being blocked off by my house because of Graceland's leaning wall. Now that I have a dog to walk, I think of Graceland and Boniface as just being these huge obstacles in the way of talking a nice walk. Ever try walking down Irving Park along the cemetery? Not fun. If I was buried at Graceland I wish dogs would come and visit.
ReplyDeleteI must say, the 'residents' of Graceland have never tried to break into my car, or break into my condo, or leave mindless graffiti.
ReplyDeleteCan we learn something from the Dead? Yep.
