At Least One Good Public School Boundary Extends Into Uptown

A reader tipped us off to this YoChicago post discussing the James G. Blaine School on Grace, which is one of the city's most acclaimed primary schools. Condos near the school boundaries command a higher price, although being near the Southport Corridor doesn't hurt either. Speaking of Southport, did you know that the Southport Corridor was once part of the 46th Ward? It was divided between the 44th and 47th Wards in 1993, and look what happened. There is a brief history of the Southport Corridor here. Check out the YoChicago post here.

  1. Read the history page linked.

Seniors and the poor. Nobody else matters.

    Ever.

Many would say the seniors and poor don't matter to Helen, either. They are all just the means to an end, with that end being her grip on power.

I personally think Helen means well and truly cares for the less fortunate, but somehow, like everything else she touches, it gets all screwed up by her insolence and one-sidedness.

With all the budget issues at the city, perhaps the 46th ward can be eliminated and split between the 47th and 48th. Or maybe throw in the south of Irving portion with the 44th.

Then, Richie doesn't have to continually buy her off with TIF deals.

It's not like you actually get any incremental benefit by spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on Helen and he cadre, so why bother?

  2. Unrelated but does anyone know what happened to the Uptown Crime Blotter website?

  3. It became too much work for one person. We know that he had offered a free scanner to anyone who would be willing to help, and the folks who did step forward took the scanners and dropped out of sight. If you know of anyone who would be reliable and willing to help run the website on a regular basis, let us know and we will pass the info along.

  6. Boundarys?

Seems funny how a few of the people we know with over million dollar homes in Uptown seem to luck in to getting there kids in to Blaine. You know who you are.

The only boundary for schools in Chicago is the one in people's wallets.

I will say that the Stockton preschool is a decent school on Magnolia. The people who run it are friendly. I send my kid to private school at my own cost, but i do business at Stockton. The Elementary School on Beacon is nuts though.

  7. Stockton, at the corner of Montrose and Beacon, is a good CPS school.

  10. Dang, you can ALMOST see my old apartment on the right of that picture. You can certainly see where I spent most of my early 20's - Justin's. I can't remember how many Red Hook's I had in their outdoor beer garden, or how many free pitchers Sandy gave us. We were really good tippers... Alas, the Justin's love affair ended when they wouldn't let us borrow their snow blower after a 20 inch snowstorm in January. I'm sure we paid for that f'n snow-blower 100 times over!
