Lawrence & Broadway Rated 'Walker's Paradise'

A reader writes in to tell us about "Walk Score," a site that helps homebuyers, renters, and real estate agents find homes in great neighborhoods. The area around Broadway and Lawrence scored a 98 out of 100! Check out the map here.

  1. So true. You have your restaurants and bars galore, public transportation, 3 banks, multiple dry cleaners, small grocery and corner stores, multiple schools & daycare, two bookstores, three live music venues, and one theater all within 3 blocks.

  2. It helps being on the winning side of the Maginot Line 46th/48th ward.
Even if it's just one foot in!

  3. I suspect you are talking about the service at the post office, Christopher? As for the actual post office building I love it. It has a great WPA mural and I love the art deco embellishments on the building. I love the scale of the steps too. They make you feel rather grand as you go about your mundane errands. And, I love that Fat Cat is now next door!

  4. Definitely a walker's paradise. I sold my car years ago, happily take zipcars from one of several locations when I need them, and bike, walk, and el the rest of the time.

Hey, the picture of the Broadway Bank building is beautiful... can anyone point to a good source for old Uptown photos? I found some good pics from the 20s and 30s on the Chicago Historical Society site (I think it was there), but would like to know if there are other sites out there.
