It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas...

... north of Foster Avenue, at least.

We keep hearing rumors that SSA #34 won't be putting up holiday decorations in Uptown this year, although we haven't heard anything official yet. We're hoping Uptowners don't have to go to Andersonville for holiday spirit.

  1. Maybe one of these people can answer that question?

Marty Kelly (President), Terry Tuohy (Vice President), Margaret Haywood (Secretary), Tom
Cameron, Eric Cheng, Chip Long, Jennifer Martin, Steve Milford, Warren Preis, David Rettker (Treasurer), Ray Rickert or Peter Holsten.

  2. I wish they would pass a law banning all Christmas commiercials and displays until after Thanksgiving. Violators would be subject to a public lashing. Or forced to lunch with Alderman Shiller.

  3. I was driving east on Devon in mid October and the Christmas lamp post decorations were already on every pole...all along the stretch of Sari palaces....go figure...

  4. I want to make an effort to shop local this year. I usually buy toys, books, clothing/accessories (mainly for kids), food and alcohol. I don't want to see any of our local businesses suffer during this downturn. What can local residents do to help?

  5. falcc_esq, I strongly agree. I'm thinking of launching a campaign in defense of Thanksgiving to stave off the display of Christmas stuff before it's time.

larrynow, If those decorations on Devon were candles, it was probably for Diwali.

  8. retailers have this idea I think that if they put up the decorations people are gonna start spending money, earlier and earlier each year.

sadly, this is gonna be a dismal year for retailers...all the decorations in the world won't create dollar bills in the pockets...

i for one am like sassy, i try and always shop locally every holiday season...lots of good, unusual stuff out there if ya look for it!
