A reader sends us this photo showing the "coming soon" sign and logo for the upcoming "
Fontana Grill" wine bar at Wilson and Beacon. The outdoor seating area already has quite a few tables set up for patrons and new landscaping. The interior has been totally renovated. Let's hope soon means "soon."
Sidewalk tables out now? Yeah, it better be soon. Don't know how long this weather will hold out...

ReplyDeleteThe landscaping and tables are probably there to make sure passersby really notice that a restaurant will be opening in this space.

ReplyDeleteAhhhh, its Chicago, we get a nice long fall. But once winter gets here, she never wants to leave.
How is a "Grill" a wine bar? Name is a bit confusion. Any insight into the menu?
ReplyDeleteThe terms "Wine Bar" and "Grill" are actually marketing terms that were focus group tested for their ability to evoke visceral responses from condo-dwelling yuppies.
ReplyDeleteIf there's arugula on the menu, it's all over!
This condo owning former yuppy can't resist a "Bistro" or "Trattoria"..."Grill" meh.
ReplyDeleteI'm with billyjoe...
ReplyDeleteThe last thing Uptown needs is more evil condo-dwelling yuppies contributing to a neighborhood's better quality of life and tax base, not to mention attracting viable businesses...
What we really need is some more Section 8 housing and transient hotels, liquor stores and currency exchanges and another disgustingly filthy Popeye's Chicken. And when the Supreme Court strikes down Chicago's handgun ban, would it be too much to dream of a gun store on every corner too?
Now that's urban livin'!
Not sure I understand 'Billyjoe's' point. Would he rather have a JJ Peppers?
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was joking?
Any quality legit business in Uptown is MOST welcome....especially the ones that DON'T attract
trouble-prone people.
OH.....Billyjoe is the Evanston housefly buzzing about this blog....
ReplyDeleteTonight I spoke with the owner while he was working on the outside of the building. He asked me how the F in the sign looked, he's worried it looks too ambiguous. Being honest I told him it was a little hard to decipher. He said the restaurant would be open in 3 weeks and he'd have a liquor license 3 weeks after that. After that my wife let him know we were looking forward to being one of his first customers.
ReplyDeleteJudging from his enthusiasm and attention to detail. I think we're going to have a fine addition to the neighborhood.
With nothing in my line of sight besides cheap retail and a liquor store, I welcome any kind of eatery that doesn't deep-fry the entire menu.
