Golly, we have heard from several readers who have reported these bike "remnants" to 311 that have been attached to a bike rack for months now, but to no avail. Shockingly enough, this is near the intersection of Broadway and Wilson, just in front of the optometrist at 1080 W Wilson.
I have seen these all over. The funny thing is from the photo that the city pays someone to walk around and string signs to the meter yet can't find anyone to clip a bike.
ReplyDeleteAll they have to do is clip the lock, a rusted up pick up truck will take it away in less than 5 minutes.
Thanks, Its my bike ... now if I can just remember where I left my tires.
ReplyDeletePerhaps this is an art installation, designed to show the eventually deteroriation of society.
ReplyDeleteOr...
MotS: Maybe not, but I've actually seen at least one art project BASED on abandoned bikes.... Abandoned Bicycles of New York
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, what would happen if I just walked up and sawed off the u-lock or clipped the chains? Would a cop actually stop me? A nice bike frame makes for a cheap city bike. If it has been abandoned for a couple weeks, is it fair game?
ReplyDeleteChoose your battles, folks.
ReplyDeleteThis stripped and abandoned bike is the least of the many, many concerns facing Uptown.
I think it's Helen Shiller's bike.
ReplyDelete"Shockingly enough?"

ReplyDeleteWe Uptowners can walk and chew gum at the same time. Small and large quality-of-life issues... we battle on many fronts.
