"I was walking down Carmen Ave yesterday afternoon and found a note on the ground next to the sidewalk directly across the street from Helen's home. (Scan attached.) It appears to have been written in silver Sharpie, on the back of a blank Stockton Elementary School School Apparel Sale order form. Apparently the car had already been moved, as this note was just lying on the grass.I like the vaguely threatening postscript.
This, it seems, is the kind of crime Helen is getting actively involved in stopping. How brave!"

If only Helen showed this much outrage about Uptown shootings, drug dealers, prostitution, slum lords, grafitti, etc etc.. but I guess when you live in Andersonville as she does, this is your biggest problem....

ReplyDeleteWe don't think the reader was saying that this letter was definitely written by the Alderman. We wonder how many "Shillers" actually live in the house on Carmen.

ReplyDeleteHere is what I notice, often when Shiller defenders get angry on UU they use more than one apostrophe. I kind of thought a few of them could be Helen herself.

ReplyDeleteI think an errant neighbor used Shiller's name to try to instill fear in an alleged perpetrator. Can a civilian call 311 to have a parking ticket issued? This sounds weird, and the literacy of the writer is questionable too.

ReplyDeleteI would have done the same thing. Except my threats to have the car towed would have been empty threats, whereas the Alderman can probably actually get this done quite easily.
ReplyDeletei don't think that shiller's living in andersonville makes her out of touch. i technically live in andersonville and consider myself an uptown resident, as many of my nearby neighbors do. it's not fair to be labeled simply by where your residence is located.
ReplyDeletenow, if you label her by what she does or doesn't do for the REST of uptown, that's another story.
I believe one can call and report the violation; however I don't think a ticket can be issued unless an office goes to the scene and sees the violation themselves. Otherwise anytime someone pissed you off you could call in their plate number with some random violation and get them ticketed.

I see what you're trying to say but she's an alderman. She should at least live in her own area. If it doesn't matter, she could live in Saganosh (sp?)
This is all a hoax. My guess is Helen would have your car towed on the first offense (by Lincoln Towing) - and wouldn't bother leaving a note.

ReplyDeleteMy point, if you reread my initial post, was she should show some outrage about what happens in Uptown. I have yet to see it... this was the strongest note or comment I have seen about ANY crime this summer.... and it is about blocking her driveway..lol... it is just sad!

Speaking of handwriting analysis, it is interesting that the words MY and ME are both written in capital letters, while the word "you" is all small letters.

I don't think that anyone is assuming that Helen wrote this note. How many Shillers live in that house? It is presumably from one of them.

Another correspondence school handwriting expert weighing in here...
ReplyDeleteI think this did come from someone whose last name is Shiller. The all-caps signature is very fluid compared to the rest of writing. It looks to me that the person has written that combination of letters many times before as opposed to the rest of the note. They also seem pretty confident that a ticket could be mailed without an officer coming out and writing the ticket. Of course that cannot happen. This is one instance in which my long experience with Uptown crime serves me well. If a cop didn't witness it and there was no damage to property or person then it is as if it never happened, sweetie.
