"I was walking down Carmen Ave yesterday afternoon and found a note on the ground next to the sidewalk directly across the street from Helen's home. (Scan attached.) It appears to have been written in silver Sharpie, on the back of a blank Stockton Elementary School School Apparel Sale order form. Apparently the car had already been moved, as this note was just lying on the grass.
I like the vaguely threatening postscript.
This, it seems, is the kind of crime Helen is getting actively involved in stopping. How brave!"

If only Helen showed this much outrage about Uptown shootings, drug dealers, prostitution, slum lords, grafitti, etc etc.. but I guess when you live in Andersonville as she does, this is your biggest problem....
ReplyDeleteGood catch...
ReplyDeleteAny handwriting analysts around?
ReplyDeleteWe don't think the reader was saying that this letter was definitely written by the Alderman. We wonder how many "Shillers" actually live in the house on Carmen.
ReplyDeleteOr, its entirely possible that someone knows Shiller lives on the block, and decided to use her name for some effect.
ReplyDeleteHere is what I notice, often when Shiller defenders get angry on UU they use more than one apostrophe. I kind of thought a few of them could be Helen herself.
ReplyDeleteHave we found our mising link? It this our rosetta stone?
maybe that car belongs to a low income resident of the area... and maybe one could accuse her with being racist and not liking people because they don't look like her... helen should offer the car owner shelter in her basement
ReplyDeleteIt could be from her son. We have heard reports that he lives there and not her.
ReplyDeleteWhomever it is, they seem to think that just the name "Shiller" is enough to strike fear in the heart of the offender... No, "Miss" or "Mr." or a first initial.
ReplyDeleteI think an errant neighbor used Shiller's name to try to instill fear in an alleged perpetrator. Can a civilian call 311 to have a parking ticket issued? This sounds weird, and the literacy of the writer is questionable too.
ReplyDeleteThis belongs on PassiveAggressiveNotes.com.
ReplyDeleteWhy would an errant neighbor care if someone blocks the Alderman's driveway? Only the Alderman or someone who lives with the Alderman would care.
ReplyDeleteI would have done the same thing. Except my threats to have the car towed would have been empty threats, whereas the Alderman can probably actually get this done quite easily.
ReplyDeletei don't think that shiller's living in andersonville makes her out of touch. i technically live in andersonville and consider myself an uptown resident, as many of my nearby neighbors do. it's not fair to be labeled simply by where your residence is located.
ReplyDeletenow, if you label her by what she does or doesn't do for the REST of uptown, that's another story.
I believe one can call and report the violation; however I don't think a ticket can be issued unless an office goes to the scene and sees the violation themselves. Otherwise anytime someone pissed you off you could call in their plate number with some random violation and get them ticketed.
ReplyDeleteit's not fair to be labeled simply by where your residence is located.
ReplyDeleteSo if the president lives in Canada is he still the president.
I see what you're trying to say but she's an alderman. She should at least live in her own area. If it doesn't matter, she could live in Saganosh (sp?)
This is all a hoax. My guess is Helen would have your car towed on the first offense (by Lincoln Towing) - and wouldn't bother leaving a note.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Craig. Would anyone at her Carmen house sign it just Shiller?
ReplyDeleteThat seems odd, the only people who call her simply Shiller are us.
Helen might not, but WWBD?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Craig. Would anyone at her Carmen house sign it just Shiller?
ReplyDeleteYou honestly think she's on a first name basis with any of her neighbors?
Uptown Jen. ... First, thank you for acknowledging you live in Andersonville, not Uptown. Just like Helen.
ReplyDeleteMy point, if you reread my initial post, was she should show some outrage about what happens in Uptown. I have yet to see it... this was the strongest note or comment I have seen about ANY crime this summer.... and it is about blocking her driveway..lol... it is just sad!
Are you people seriously buying this? If you are would you be interested in some Lehman Bros stock?
ReplyDeleteBased on my extensive experience with "handwriting analysis" and ouija boards I am fully confident that the economy is fine and that Richard M Daley is a great "mare".
ReplyDeleteAs for this I say give the aldercreature the benefit of the doubt and assume it is not from her.
Speaking of handwriting analysis, it is interesting that the words MY and ME are both written in capital letters, while the word "you" is all small letters.
ReplyDeleteI'll let each of you decide what that may/may not mean about the narcissistic tendencies of "SHILLER." (whomever that may be)
I don't think that anyone is assuming that Helen wrote this note. How many Shillers live in that house? It is presumably from one of them.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be funny if we all started leaving random passive-aggressive notes signed "Shiller" all over Uptown, tucked under windshield wipers and taped to doors, lampposts, and passed-out junkies?
ReplyDeleteThe random note comment is amusing.
ReplyDeleteNext time I see a passed out drunken condo owner I will put a post it note on his forehead "move to Lincoln Park" and sign it "Shiller".
WOW! Random "SHILLER" notes is a fantastic idea!
ReplyDeleteMaybe a talented UU reader can create a Shiller hand note generator.
ReplyDeleteStart dropping the word "Shiller" into everyday language! Turn it into an adjective/adverb...
ReplyDelete"Hey pal! Move your freakin' car or I'll Shiller your ass! (call the cops)"
**The random note comment is amusing.

LOL!
Another correspondence school handwriting expert weighing in here...
ReplyDeleteI think this did come from someone whose last name is Shiller. The all-caps signature is very fluid compared to the rest of writing. It looks to me that the person has written that combination of letters many times before as opposed to the rest of the note. They also seem pretty confident that a ticket could be mailed without an officer coming out and writing the ticket. Of course that cannot happen. This is one instance in which my long experience with Uptown crime serves me well. If a cop didn't witness it and there was no damage to property or person then it is as if it never happened, sweetie.
