Time To Bust Out The Weed-Whacker

We have noticed that many of the sidewalks in Uptown have out-of-control weeds. Case in point, these weeds on Lawrence, next to St. Boniface Cemetery which measure at least 3 1/2 feet tall. There are some spots on Lawrence where the weeds tower over the neighboring parked cars. Yikes.

  1. That's St. Boniface Cemetery.

Not nearly as large or nice as Graceland. Although they do have some interesting memorials to Civil War Soldiers.

That might be the 47th Ward depending on where on Lawrence it is.

  2. Thanks Wombat. We got our cemeteries confused. It has been corrected.

  3. We just double-checked our confusing 46th Ward boundaries and it does appear that the entire length of Lawrence along the cemetery border is in the 46th.

  4. It's a real treat in the winter too. That walk never gets shoveled.

  5. You did not hear...this is part of the Lawrence street scape project to help beautify the hood.

  6. Tree trimmer as well. The Tree branches on the West side Of Clarendon, between Montrose and Sunnyside hang so low you have to almost walk in the street or get your eye polked out.

  7. Two weeks ago, I was asking why there are no trees on Lawrence basically from Sheridan going west to Clark.

This area is just a bit desolate and I hope someone steps up and takes a stand.

If there is anyone that wants to run for Alderman next time, get this done as well as be a champion on crime and you are more than half way to my vote..

  8. Who says Helen isn't a green Alderman?

  9. St. Boniface is a "closed" cemetery - all grave spaces have been filled. Therefore the cemetery committee of the Chicago Archdiocese probably does not put maintenance of the surrounding grounds as a priority. Maybe if they knew what the area looked like they'd be more pro-active about making it better.

  10. I drove by St. Boniface Cemetery today and saw no weeds.A good number of trash bags were filled with weeds leaning against the cemetary walls.

Those sidewalks and curbs are city property.

I believe the city is reponsible for weed removal.

I could not tell you who cut the weeds down.
