Time To Brainstorm Uptown Slogan Ideas

We have received several emails from folks wanting a forum in which to discuss coming up with a slogan for Uptown residents to display on buttons, bumper stickers, or signs, to show our solidarity in fighting crime in our neighborhood. Any ideas?

  1. This was originally brainstormed at the FORUM Meeting at Kahawa Coffee House. Feel free to throw out suggestions, and then we will move forward to have it designed by a graphic designer. The goal is to have a window decal to be put in all storefronts and homes.

At the meeting, my suggestion was "NOT ON OUR BLOCK," with something on the bottom to the effect of "Uptown Residents Against Crime, Drugs, and Gangs."

  2. UPTOWN UNITE! yeah boy, lets get a logo.

  3. Uptown Uprising!

United People Together Owning Wilson Neighborhood

    or sumpthin' ;-)

  4. We have lots of families here. We should choose something positive and sunshin-y. I choose:

    "Our Children Live Here!"

It promotes community, safety, positivity, and a pleasant living environment in which we live.

Yes, I know we don't all have children specifically. But they all belong to us. Those "short" folks will grow up to be "tall" folks among us.

Also, those children LIVE here. For better or worse and they have no choice.

They say you should dress for the job you want, not the one you have. I say we should do the same with our home. A slogan for the home we want, not the one we have currently.

I choose: "Our Children Live Here!"

  5. How bout dis as a symbol?

I posted it in another thread and seriously like it. Not appropriate yet moves me.

For the red white and Uptown Blues.

  6. Taking Back Uptown

    Uplifting Uptown

    United for Uptown

    Cleaning "Up"Town

    Not In My Backyard

  7. To c(orr)uptown:

    I like it. How about

    Put the UP in Uptown
Stand UP against Crime, Drugs, and Gangs

    STAND UPtown
Uptown Residents Against Crime, Drugs and Gangs

  8. Uptown: You come for hookers, You stay for the free methodone!

  9. Most people don't know, but Uptown is actually an acronym:

    O-open air drug markets

  10. Reminds me of the penultimate scene of "Blade Runner".

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
    Time to die".
    Perhaps we could change it:

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Gang bangers firing guns across the shoulder of Wilson.
I watched urine glitter in the dark near the Uptown Theater.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
    Time to die".

  11. NOT ON OUR BLOCK is way to close to NOT IN MY BACKYARD or NIMBY, so while it may capture the spirit, it doesn't work.

I really like the play on UP and UPtown. Its positive and catchy.

    How about

    Stand UP
    Speak UP
    Rise UP

or maybe from the other side

I don't really like UPswing per se, I just like the whole play on the word UP and the meaning about a place getting better.

  12. "Fostering Uptown's Upside: Community, Diversity, & Family"

  13. several of these remind me of "from my cold dead hands"

uptown..."this ain't your college campus, sweetie"

  14. Eagle has the best idea so far, from a marketing and public relations standpoint. Plus, this of the graphic opportunities!

rise UP, stand UP, UPlift, etc...

  15. What about "Uptown Citizens Unite: Stand UP against Gangs, Drugs, and Crime in Our Neighborhood!"...?

I realize it is wordy...but it pulls together some basic ideas from this could be printed on T-shirts...the neighborhood could have particular days (maybe once a week?) when EVERYONE wears 'em while they're out and about...

  16. Uptown: We're Cable Ready!

Uptown: So much more interesting than Gary, Indiana

Uptown: Our sidwalks close a half hour later than most crime ridden neighborhoods

Uptown: When you're tired of a nice neighborhood, give us a chance

Uptown's new affordable housing: Twice as plentiful at more than twice the cost!

    Uptown: Parking galore!

Uptown: Where the Alderman's office goes "to bat" for you...literally! (Right George?!)

Uptown: Where unhappy people run for political office just to make your life even more miserable.

Uptown: More average than your typical Chicago neighborhood

Uptown: Where Aldi's butt greets you with a smile

    Uptown: Where rules don't apply

Uptown: We put the "ic" in Chicago

Uptown: Pothole capital of the world

    Uptown: We have potential!

    Uptown: Chicago's most entertaining neighborhood

Uptown: Never underestimate the power of corruption

Uptown: Leftist dogma come to life

Uptown: Pee stain capital of the world

    Uptown: Crossroads of East Lakeview

Uptown: Not just a flight path for O'Hare

    Uptown: Odd Bicycle City, USA

Uptown: You just can't make this stuff up

  17. I like the short ones. It has to be visible and legible from say, across the street. So when criminals walk down your block they see these signs staring them down.

I'm with kenny: 'STAND UPtown' is cool.

  18. I like the Stand UPtown too. Simple, could be done graphically-nice, and it says multiple things... Stand up to it's citizens... making a stand in Uptown to the rabble.

    Dunno... just mho. ;)
