New Restaurant Coming To Wilson & Broadway (Well, Kinda)

From the Tribune:

After 36 years and 1901 restaurants in 26 countries, Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits is rebranding itself and deciding to play up the fact that this is actually a New Orleans-based fast food chicken joint. And so the new name is… Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, which is meant, apparently, to summon images of home cooking and heritage and local character. If your nearby Popeyes hasn’t made the transition yet -- it will soon (by the end of the month, most likely).

  1. Maybe they can have a Nawlins' style funeral for all the dead rats they find in there while "rebranding".

  2. maybe this new identity will inspire them to wash the windows...how anybody goes into that place is beyond me....

  3. The founder of the chain died recently, so the new powers-that-be are probably trying to assert themselves by taking the business in new directions. One way, obviously, is to change the name and logo.

Plus they probably got tired of all those "can I have some spinach with that?" jokes.

  4. I must say Ive never ate there. Hell I try not to walk there let alone stop to eat.

Maybe I will take my kids school shopping at that "mall" this year.

  5. So where are the great "indie" places in Uptown where one can purchase fried chicken to go?

  6. Odd that the Popeye's chain would go to extra lengths to play up its Louisiana roots considering they've been based in Atlanta for the last several years...

  7. Well, BJ, for one, Express Chicken & Ribs, which has been closed quite a bit lately, but is participating in the Experience Uptown event.

  8. Peak inside the "Popeyes" inside the old Uptown Station. They already put lipstick on that pig.

  9. There is a complaint section on their website. I know it's a stretch, but I would start there. If they have an operational volume to maintain($$$), then they should only be receptive to cleaning their act up. Just a thought.

  10. As a native Louisianian, Popeye's is one of my few culinary comforts from home in Chicago. And I work around the corner from there. I just wish they'd clean it up enough for it to be palatable to eat there...

Really??? YOu've eaten ACTUAL Louisiana food and consider Popeye's homestyle comfort food? I could be wrong, but that's like me going to Sri Lanka, going to a McDonald's and saying "ah, a real taste of home cooking!"
