A reader sent in this photo showing a new condo development at 1313 W. Carmen. A cool $599,000 will get you a unit in this building
"in the heart of Andersonville." Who wouldn't want to live on a beautiful tree-lined street on Carmen in the heart of Andersonville? There sure are alot of lovely single family homes there.
LOL. This is a good one, Uptown Updater. I guess this agent decided to go with "heart of Andersonville" rather than the gift certificate option other agents are trying out. Maybe if she threw in "gift certificate to 'Smoke Dreams' for you and your alderman/neighbor" I might be interested.
ReplyDeleteWhat is up with Smoke Dreams, anyway? What a horrible addition to Clark St. It's what the neighborhood would need if there were hundreds of college students in the area who needed a cheap bong. It looks ridiculous. And who smokes anymore, anyway?
ReplyDeleteany one else find some humor in a person with a user name like "colonoscopy" passing judgment on people that smoke pot?
ReplyDeleteit made me laugh.
What does it say that Uptown's alderman lives on a beautiful tree-lined street "in the heart of Andersonville," with $600K condos on the block and the closest shelter being Treehouse, the no-kill cat shelter? "Let them eat cake," indeed. I guess gun battles and gangbangers on sunny afternoons are only for the people who live in "the heart of Uptown." No wonder she doesn't comment on crime.
ReplyDeleteFunny, tygerkub! From "Heart of Uptown Coalition" to "Heart of Andersonville Coalition." Hey kiddies, some tigers do change their stripes! Time for Shiller to do a Jane Byrne at least to get her cred back...
ReplyDeleteWhat ??? Are you saying Alder. Shiller doesn't live in UpTown ???? Are you friggin joking, am I mistaken here?
ReplyDeleteAld. Shiller lives in what is technically Uptown, since it's south of Foster. (Barely.) Take a look at the photo and compare it to Wilson and Magnolia.
ReplyDeleteWhen she moved, the 46th Ward's boundaries had to be moved so she'd actually live in the Ward.
Apparently the listing agent of the place on her block would prefer not to use the "U-word."
According to the white pages, Helen Shiller resides at 1248 Carmen, just steps from the property in the picture. It makes one wonder why she would choose to live so far away from the community she has helped cultivate.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why Shiller allowed these $500K condo's to be built on her street rather than low income housing units or a methadone clinic?
ReplyDeleteMarathon Man: Not passing judgment on people who smoke pot, rest assured. Really, you can be assured of that. When I said "who smokes anymore?" I meant who smokes cigarettes anymore. Cigarettes are sooooo 1995, whereas pot is timeless.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, I love it when hypocrisy is shown the light of day. Few things in life make me happier.
ReplyDeleteI hope that COURAJ is picketing and leafleting that condo development that is OBVIOUSLY taking away housing from needy drug dealers! If those units can't be bought quickly by CHA, then I hope that COURAJ is pushing for several social service agencies, halfway houses for released felons, and homeless shelters to go in that building so close to Saint Helen's home! Just think of all she could do by being RIGHT THERE to personally oversee relief efforts...and she could dodge the bullets, weave through the panhandlers, and step over the drunk and the urinating at her front step as one with the rest of her beloved Uptown!
