Meet the Legal Team
Representing FWY are two leading law firms with expertise in different
areas of law. Davis McGrath is a boutique firm with experience in Tax
Increment Financing (TIF) Issues, while Ramsdell & Associates focuses more
on land use litigation (Ramsdell & Associates is most recently known for
having defeated the Chicago Park District, the City of Chicago and the Latin
School in the Lincoln Park soccer field debacle). Both firms are leading attorneys
in their respective fields and the combination of their strengths gives this
community the broad range of talents needed to cover this case in depth
without any one attorney facing an uphill learning curve and additional cost
to the FWY legal fund. They have the utmost confidence in our case and have
offered their services at greatly reduced hourly rates.
Fundraising Success!
With no fanfare and only three community meetings, the donations are flowing in.
We have now raised more than $20,000.
We seem to have hit a good nerve with the announcement of Fix-Wilson-Yard.
People know Wilson Yard is the turning point for either making or breaking
Uptown's future. While we are thrilled at the early enthusiasm, we know
we are still far away from reaching the estimated six-figure sum we will have
to raise to see this suit through trial. So please visit www.fixwilsonyard.org
and make your donation today!

TIF Tidbits
A recent downstate court ruling now empowers Chicago taxpayers to sue
the city for TIF abuse. The Reader article, Three Million Lawsuits Oughta
Do It, gives taxpayers a light at the end of the dark, long TIF-tunnel. To read
the entire article, click here.
What is going on with the W.Y.P,as far as I knew, they were building mixed income housing!!What has brought on this disagreement.

ReplyDeleteBy the way that picture is ridiculous, and in no way representative of uptowns celebrated diversity!!!!
ReplyDeleteWell that answers a few of the questions some people had.
ReplyDeleteThings are moving along quite nicely with "the rebellion".
This is going to be fun to watch. Looks like I need to kick in some more money.
tnt taking up issue with the photo? COME ON.
ReplyDeleteHas everyone notice our TIF cash hard at work the last TWO WEEKS!
ReplyDeleteIn case you didn't catch the sarcasm, the site has remained idle for a while now. A while ago Revcon brought equipment on the site (large red and black cranes). Revcon is a foundation contractor with very big and expensive equipment. The GC had brought two machines on site, unpacked them just to repack them and move to some other site. I can't explain how expensive it is just to bring this stuff to a job site (try $10,000 per machine PER DAY). These caisson drillers didn't do a THING. There is a slim chance they were staged for temporary storage but considering they were set up, I don't think this was the case.
We should tack on mismanagement of construction site logistics to the other shi**y things these bozos have done. Can you say: 'mis-allocation of tif funding.'
It looks like they have been having some issues with the high water table and are trying to pump out some of the water. I believe the high water table was mentioned as the reason that the Truman College garage will be underground. Seems that the architects for Truman did their homework, while WY plods along...
ReplyDeleteI look forward to attending the next Fix Wilson Yard meeting (couldn't make it to the last one)and am glad to see much more information about the group.
Correction...the Truman College garage will NOT be underground because of the high water table. Forgot to put the "not" in the original posting!
ReplyDeleteLet's see, in that picture I see men and women. White, Asian, African-American, and possibly Middle-Eastern in the back. I'll even speculate that maybe one of them is gay, too!
ReplyDeleteNah, no diversity at ALL in that picture!

ReplyDeleteThat's a police lineup. Their crime is participation in white collar labor.
It could be so fun to be a Shillerista.

ReplyDeleteIf you look closely, you can see the keys to their condos in their pockets. And look at the smug looks on their faces, they're clearly laughing at the plight of others.
onelove, just so that you're clear on the concept:
ReplyDelete"Low income" and "VERY low income" housing...is NOT "mixed income" housing.
Unless "mixed income" refers to mixing the welfare card value with the drug-dealing income brought in from the South Side (where most of the addresses of those being arrested IN UPTOWN seem to come from) and the suburbs. Then we would just have to hold Holsten's feet to the fire with tenant screening and watch him squirm when the city's drug house ordinance drags him into court.
