Several readers have written in alerting us to CBS2's Summer Shooting Tracker. Check it out for yourself. According to the map, we have had one shooting in Uptown this summer. That's news to us.
i wrote to a local paper the other day asking them to look into our 'war zone' and cited 3 shootings within a weeks time...maybe others can email news stations/papers/webzines and ask them to look into it and think about presenting a story or notice to the public as well
I wonder if they only count the 'shootings' where a target is actually hit? We've had a lot of daylight shoot-outs lately, but more than not they don't hit their intended target. I guess you actually have to hit someone to get your 15 minutes of fame.
Uptown Update is allowing the residents of Uptown to become a powerful force. Lets use this force to impeach Shiller. Can we really sit by and allow this neglect of our great neighborhood happen?
i see...a shooting is only a shooting if someone gets shot.
i guess the moral of the story is, if you get caught in a gang fight, provoke them to shoot you...apparently they have horrible aim, so chances are we are more likely to be hit by a stray bullet than one actually intended for us.
i'll let you know how my plan works...and if you don't hear from me again, please disregard my strategy. cheers
There is one fatal shooting in Uptown (23rd District) in 2008. And r is right if no one is hit shots fired does not classify has a shooting. The shots fired at Clifton and Montrose was classified as a weapons violation. Someone shot is either a aggravated battery or a homicide. A building or car is criminal damage to property. Crime is classified by the FBI's uniform crime reporting codes (UCR), you can google that for more info.
When you are listening to the scanner you will hear officers ask for a RD number (records division) for UCR such and such. This is how crime is tracked. Totally different the tracking calls for service (calls to 911). And not all calls will generate a report, most only require some sort of police intervention.
Yes, I have had that experience recently and not only that, the cops never showed up. It was a Friday night and there were probably other things to attend to besides a bunch of whistling, hand-gesturing gang-bangers signaling to their crew who all of a sudden are on bicycles. BTW, what's up with the bikes? Anyone else notice that all of a sudden everyone is on one?
"No red push-pin in front of the alderman's office, I see."
After all of the press about the innocent college student who was shot and killed by daytime gang gunfire in front of Alderman Helen Shiller's office, even CBS should have the data somewhere. I'll bet if it were their neighborhood it would be noted.
Perhaps someone could ask CBS where they get this info. This might explain how Helen is able to lie about the crime in Uptown.

ReplyDeleteAlso, the Trib reported on 2 people who were shot in Lincoln Park, and a third who ran into a wall trying to get away from the shooting.

No mention of the Uptown shooting, even though someone did get hit.
Nice!
Here's a cross reference.
ReplyDeleteThey don't have this one in my neighborhood. A heartbreaking story.

ReplyDeleteWe all must have been having the same nightmare.
At the same time.
With the same details.
Quirky, that.

You can impeach and Alderman or recall but I wonder if we can sue an Alderman for not doing their job and lying to us?
ReplyDeleteWY should just be the start.
Also I think Alderman need to account for their time and when they are actually working since they work for us.
can't i ment

Is anyone else experiencing long wait times for 911 to pick up and answer the phone?
