June Starts Off With A Bang! Bang! Bang!

From the Chicago Uptown Crime Blotter:

Sunday, June 1, 2008
4:55 multiple shots fired, Sunnyside and Hazel area. multiple calls.

Enough is enough. How high does the body count have to be before this stops? Powers That Be, are you hearing this?

  1. Any update on the shootings? Were there any victims?

  2. This is ridiculous. Now we have shootings in broad daylight?!?! This is extremely scary. I can't wait for the rally this weekend, this needs to stop. Hopefully as least there was someone to identify the shooters so we can put them away.

  3. The rally is going to solve it all.

Don't get shot at the rally, I won't want the thugs knowing who I am.

  4. The rally is going to solve it all.

And not doing anything is going to make it better?

You generally get what you put into things. If you don't do anything to try to change something, you get the same-old, same-old. I'm sick of the same-old, same-old. How 'bout you?

  5. why does everyone have to be so negative? of course the rally isn't going to SOLVE the problem, but either is leaving negative comments and sitting on your couch. At least we are doing something. More has to be done. We need to get off our butts and come together as a community in order to really effect change.

  6. There are 3 CAPS meetings this week in Uptown. I hope that the Rally is discussed and fliers handed out at those...

  7. Will their be armed police protection at the rally? Since I can't legally conceal and carry my own weapon to protect myself, who will protect me from the gangbangers with guns?

  8. I guess you're just going to have to stay hidden in your home forever until the people who actually care about living in a safe neighborhood have done everything they can to make Uptown safe for people to walk the streets. Then you can come out and enjoy it!

  9. I went to the Buena Park Neighbors block club website and saw NO mention of the Rally on Saturday... that is pretty sad and irresponsible of them.

  10. Did anyone hear something resembling a gunshot between 11pm and 12am this morning around Malden and Sunnyside?

  11. Some shamefully embarrassing posts today in this comments thread...

  12. Just a hint... advocating that anyone gets shot or killed will get your post deleted.

  15. Helen Shiller is a bad bad alderbeast.

    Ok, there's your comment.

  16. My friend called the alderman's office and spoke with Denise. They said that according to the police department no shots were fired. They said July 4th is around the corner and some people start work fireworks early. Denise also said that no calls were placed to 911 about the incident either. Interesting...

  17. I guess the police dispatchers are holding their sides, guffawing at the big silly joke they played on the 23rd District cops by pretending they'd gotten a bunch of calls about shots fired when there were (tee-hee) actually none at all!

Seriously, does Denise plan her lies or do they just come automatically to her?

  18. it was probably just one call. its possible that it was not shots and was something else. JUST SAYING.....ITS POSSIBLE

  20. Well, at least now we know what the response will be to the anti-crime rally this weekend.

"There's no violence, it's all tykes playing with firecrackers. The police never get any reports of shooting in this neighborhood. You just want the police to arrest the poor on trumped up charges.

No murders. That young man from Ghana just tripped on the sidewalk.

No gangs, all that graffiti is just the kids from Kuumba Lynx practicing on buildings because they're too poor to buy paper. So you're bigoted against poor kids doing art?"

  21. I hope the shooting stops and the killings.

  22. Lived in the area for just over 2 years and hate hearing of all the crime recently. However, I have been reading a book called Blue Blood about the NYPD, written by a former police officer who worked the projects in New York (highly recommended, by the way) and he mentioned something interesting. In one of his comments, about moving from the day to night squad was about the information received. What he meant was that, calls of "shots fired" during the day-time tended to be landlords wanting to get people loitering off of their property and the night time calls of "shots fired" tended to be actual shots fired. Just thought I'd share, as sometimes what is broadcast on the police scanner may not be the whole story. Love the blog - and hope to meet some of you on Saturday.
