Big Equipment Arrives At Wilson Yard

Seen today at Wilson Yard. Could groundbreaking be close? Inquiring minds want to know. If only Peter Holsten or Ald. Shiller could update the community. But alas, the only "pertinent" information on the Alderman's website deals with rain barrels, pedestrian safety and the ever important Cub's game.

  2. The equipment is just there to bury the hopes and dreams of Uptown residents for a thriving business district.

I am overwhelmed by the futility of it all. A crushing sense of ennui has overtaken me.

    Goodbye cruel worl..........bang.......

  3. Lets start a clock as to how long it sits idle, and a day rate clock to measure cost.

I hope it doesn't interfere with my shopping at the ALDI I've...NEVER BEEN TO!

Irishpirate how could you do that and not a leave a bullet for me?? I guess I will just have to wait her until after dark and pray one of the bullets whizzing by hits me.

    RIP

  4. My original thought was that the equipment is to build the park at Graham School or the Truman College garage. The Truman garage seems to be going according to plans anyway.

But then I said to myself, "Self, if we're lucky the equipment is there to move a mound of dirt to different places for several weeks to appear like they're doing something, kind of like they did before Aldi was built."

    Oh, the fun THAT was!

  5. Isn't there a clean up required on the site prior to any construction going on?

Or has that been done, already?

  6. No clean up as long as thy aren't putting in a basement plus they can pay off the City to look the other way.

  7. Have they broken ground yet?

Until they break ground and let us know exactly what they're going to build, they're just using the site to park construction equipment.

Let the clock run until the "Great Screwing of Uptown" is made official.

(Sorry for the negs, but I just can't shake the concept of Shiller-Green from my head).

  9. "." is about as close to "Anonymous" as you can get with the new posting policy. Does "." = "Troll"?

  10. I think '.' is being realistic. The construction is starting, and for good or bad - the work is progressing. Hopefully we can get some good value for the Uptown residents out of the Target and other retail business going in.

  11. I've heard it's soil testing, NOT construction. No way to start real construction until all the nasties in the ground have been dealt with.

  12. the developer was required to remediate all contanimated soils from the old CTA bus barn fuel storage tanks or demolition debris. The dirt should be as clean as your front yard - which is not saying much in Chicago...

  13. We just got this email:

"I believe they are continuing the environmental remediation.
Several weeks ago I talked to Illinois EPA (IEPA) and they told me that in a few weeks the remediation will begin the final phase. This entails removing the urban fill that covers the whole site. They have to strip the whole site of about 7 ft.-10ft of the top layer of soil. Also they will install a barrier/retaining wall around the site's perimeter I believe so the outer perimeter doesn't cave in. This will take about 2-3 weeks. Then ?????"
