What Is The 46th Ward's 'Master Plan?'

An astute reader sent us this link, showing the 44th Ward's "master plan." Notice how the block clubs are highlighted in the 44th Ward plans. It got us wondering...what is the 46th Ward's "master plan?" And be nice.

  1. Shiller would not be able to write page one of this document. She does not have the skill to write such a detailed well planned out document. Our leader is an elected con artisit - very sad. If you want to see Shiller's professional approuch to government, look at her office window. This is her attempt at informing every sqaure mile of here ward. Posting paper on her window, which ironicly makes the area look like garbage. Just like the brown paper in most Store Fronts. If you walk into a buisness and you see things out of place, unorganized and a lack of professional culture, then the company is run the same way. Maybe she will put her vision on a cocktail napkin or the back of a pack of Kool Cig carton and tape to her window. This is how much she respects the people of the 46th ward. That means people of all income and race/owners and renters. I say that, because that is how she thinks of people.

  2. But didn't she just get her Master's degree from Loyola in city administration? Not that she's using it for any CONSTRUCTIVE purpose.

  4. Could someone post a small summary of this "Master Plan?" It's a 50mb .pdf file that is going sloooow.

  5. I'm going to get our ward started by purchasing some crayons and paper. Come on down to the aldermans office on Friday.

  6. Not only does the 44th Ward have a master plan that was put together by a committee of residents and businesses, but Lakeview has had studies to measure the flow of foot traffic and also measure how much of the earned income of residents is spent within the ward. The whole idea is to encourage residents to spend money where they live.

I went to an event last night in Lakeview that awarded the neighborhood school children for school projects that highlighted their favorite places within the neighborhood. Again, it was another subtle way to highlight Lakeview.

It's a given in other wards that aldermanic support is needed to increase retail development. That shouldn't stop us for now to do what we can to increase retail development right here in Uptown. The lawsuit filed by UCC is one of many steps needed to help us along the way. It sends a message that residents will no longer stand idle when their voices are not heard.

In the meantime, vote with your feet and support the businesses that welcome you as a customer.

  7. first of all, plans like this are done by city planners, not city administrators- two totally different things. Shiller is incompetent in both, but only trained in one.

second, I ran across something once about a technical assistance group that would help communities with thing like this. I'll have to do some digging, but maybe that's something we should look into- you know actually asking for help. I'll post what i find.

  8. I'm guessing Tunney was behind the idea of hiring a group to assist his committee the ward's zoning committee to come up with a ward development plan. I seem to recall the group used was from UIC.

  9. How do we get her out of office? Didn't she only win by about 700-800 votes last election? Its obvious that it is in her best interest to keep Uptown a slum. Its the only way she'll remain in office and continue to get paid for doing nothing. I wouldn't be suprised if she was one of the loiterers there on that guardrail on montrose.

  10. Ironically the EPA has a group that works with community residents to develop master plans. Just Google Smart Growth and it will come up.

  11. As new residents, my roommate and I are very anxious to register and vote Shiller out of office. Having returned to the Chicago area after being gone 20 years, its sad to see the Uptown is the only community in Chicago that has missed the growth, beautification and improvements that I have discovered and seen all over the city. But it is also sad to see that the residents have kept her around for 20 years and let her get away with doing nothing. We pay taxes for her services? I hope we can all work together to get her out - when is our next chance?
Oh and in regards to the comments on her office – her form of communication by posting a pieces of paper in the window only goes to prove what a joke this woman is as a leader. Problem with her method of communication is it’s to dangerous to stand in front and even try to read those notices.
