And to think it all began with
this post. Today marks the one year anniversary of Uptown Update. Time does fly when you're having fun. We are thankful to live in such a vibrant and interesting neighborhood that never ceases to amaze us. We know that this past year was pivotal in Uptown history and are glad we were able to document it a bit for you. 2008 promises to be just as monumental. Thanks for making us one of the premier sources of information in Uptown.
One year and over a quarter million page hits later, you should be very proud! I was first attracted to this site because it was a source of information but also because of the "day in the life" pictures. There is so much to see and know when you actually walk a neighborhood. Thanks for sharing what you see and helping to keep everyone "uptown updated"!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Anniversary I really appreciate the information you post each day!
ReplyDeleteCongrats and thanks for everything you do! You're doing great things for the community - keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary UU! Thanks so much for being a strong voice of reason in this neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a job well done!
ReplyDelete" . . . a vibrant and interesting neighborhood that never ceases to amaze us."
ReplyDeleteTo that I'd add "amuse us," too.
LOL! You're right on that one. Happy Birthday & Thanks.
ReplyDeletewithout UU the republic of uptown would be sunk - thanks for all the info and work
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for all your news on what's important and interesting in our neighborhood, UU.
ReplyDeletewhile uptown has, for a long time, been ignored by the city, i think it's great that we have a unique outlet for our anger and excitement. it says something about the great people of our community (our moderator, especially!) that our blog is such a great site, envied and visited by many outside uptown's borders.
here's to many more!
Uptown Update is to our community, what the local grocery store (say oh, Loren Miller & Sons) might have been in the twenties, a great place for neighbors to meet, discuss and debate the goings on of our community...except I can't by castor oil here.
ReplyDeleteThank you for providing such a great outlet for all of us in Uptown!
Congratulations Uptown Update! I really appreciate all of the great information. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and THANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteI think history will judge UU as the cornerstone brick in the foundation that started the rebuilding of a new, vibrant Uptown.
Looking forward to being part of the next quarter million page hits!
Shiller has an Anniversary Card card for you, but it is posted on her window next to the bullet looking hole. This is not true ofcourse, but if she did it would have one big bad apple on the cover. She must hate the fact that this (UU) has become bigger than any communication attempt she has ever put together. Now she is reminded that she is a loser on a daily basis. Hello Shiller, I know you are reading this from home probably. Welcome to 2008. btw Kool cig were cool in 1977.
ReplyDeletecongratulations! We appreciate everything you're doing for Uptown!!
ReplyDeleteHere it comes. Don't ask me what this video had to do with UU, but it is UPlifting. Congrats.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Video, Irish Pirate.
ReplyDeleteIf we physically moved the Jesus People facilities to Iowa, even Shiller and Daley couldn't gerrymander them back into this ward.
However beware, if they end up too close to Maharishi University in Fairfax, Iowa, the 13% of the Fairfax cult populace that levitates on a regular basis might just levitate Jon Lott and crew right back to Uptown.
Careful, don't make fun of Fairfax, IA now......it's my hometown! (and no I am not kidding) :)
ReplyDeleteThat was pretty funny too!
They say it's your birthday, UU.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on one year of service to the Uptown community!
ReplyDeleteCome on now - her name is spelled Shiller - not Schiller.
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled that Uptown Update has been such a great blog to help keep the neighborhood informed, educated, and proactive..
ReplyDeleteI still vividly recall our difficulty with getting the lights under the tracks on Broadway replaced and no sooner when the photos were published on this blog, the lights were fixed. I knew then and there that this blog was powerful.
Keep up the great work!!!
Happy Birthday to U
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to U
Happy Birthday dear UU
and thank U for all U do!
Maharishi University in Fairfax, Iowa,
ReplyDeleteIS NOT IN FAIRFAX IT IS IN FAIRFIELD, IOWA.
Fairfax is next to Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Congrats on creating some kind of presence in this "hood" albeit a BLOG. As altrusitic as your efforts are we both know that the Uptown area will not change as long as the politics are the same. I am not talking about Shiller. There has always been a certain amount of benevolence in this area and it permeates throughout the city. I lived there in the 60s and early 70s and visit annually. But none the less change will come even if it comes at a snails pace.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the watchdog work.....
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change Uptown. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
