Streets And San Tells Building To Clean It Up

For our readers who live near Leland and Magnolia, you may have noticed this building on the corner and it's trash filled parkway. A reader just sent in pics of the litter and a notice on the building's door. Good to see Street and San is out and giving notices for unkept areas. Any others that come to mind?

  1. I've walked by this building a hundred times. I can tell they tried to improve the parkway with the "edging" and red wood chips. It was never maintained and I often saw neighborhood kids jumping on the edging and snapping it off and carelessly dropping trash in this area and on the street. Grass obviously will not grow here, but is there another ground cover that would work?

  2. Thanks for posting this! I live close to this building and noticed this blight the other day. Hopefully the owner cleans this up, but I wonder if there are any consequences if they ignore the notice.

  3. 312-744-5030 is on this notice.
Is this the number to call to report other problem buildings?

  4. Funny I just noticed this mess this past weekend. I also have been seeing the trash bin on the corner of Leland and Malden overflowing every week. It spills into the street and makes a huge mess. I have no idea why this bin in particular is getting filled.

  5. Calling the number above to let streets and san know couldn't hurt.

  6. The bin that used to be at Magnolia and Leland also used to overflow every week. Most of the trash was tons of plastic bags. Every week it was the same. The One on Leland and Malden is just as bad. Strange thing is the trash bin at Magnolia and Lawrence never gets like that. I figured they got rid of the Magnolia/Leland trash can to cut down on people drinking booze at the corner but that is just a guess. It is nice that people are using it, I just wonder why it's always so bad at those 2 locations.

  7. Could our ornery youth be stashing things in the trashcans for later consumption?

  8. All of Hazel - from Montrose north to Wilson needs help. The CPNA had a cleanup about 2 weeks ago, and a few days later it was back to being trashed. People (adults and youths alike) go to the corner store on Montrose and Hazel for snacks, consume them on their way back home, and ditch the bags, cups, etc. on the ground.

  9. I think the trash can overflowing on Malden is overflowing because the one on Magnolia was removed. A lot of my neighbors use the bins for dog waste.

  10. I agree with your comments regarding Hazel North of Montrose to Wilson. I've also noticed and reported dumpsters being stored on public sidewalks instead of on the owners property in a fenced locked area. Most are overflowing and visited by dumpster divers.

Such dumpsters belong to the the usual suspects: Filip Rotheimer, Voice of the People, and Community Housing Partners. Commumity Housing Parters are the same people who have that dumpster in the handicapped parking zone at 927 West Wilson. Recently Community Housing Partners at 900 West Wilson recently added a fenced, rear storage area for their dumpsters and started keeping them on their own property.

  11. I think it's the bratty kids that littered all over this area, i used to live right there on Magnolia and now live over on Beacon and walk past this everyday to the El. i've seen school papers before on the ground, like a kid up and dumped his bookbag onto the sidewalk.

    Sidenote about Leland and kids:
Has anyone else ever encountered the two boys roughly 12-14yrs old who make rude remarks when walking down leland?? the two boys once yelled profanities at me and giggled as they walked past on the other side of the street. I told them to get a life and go to school. Then i saw them head south on Beacon one day also giggling and pointing to other pedestrians. BRATS. I am disgusted that kids talk the way they do these days.
