The Town Hall Police District, located in the heart of Boystown, has a new commander who made history by becoming the first woman to lead that particular district. The development resulted from new Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis' recent massive department overhaul.
Former 20th District Commander Kathleen Boehmer, who has years of experience working with the LGBT community, replaced Gary Yamashiroya as commander of the 23rd District. Yamashiroya is now commander of the Area 3 Detective Division.
The Town Hall District is located at 3600 N. Halsted, meaning that it is practically next door to the Center on Halsted.

ReplyDeleteWe are all too busy holding our breath.
Let's hope this new Commander, unlike the past four, will stop dividing the 23rd Police District into the "Lakeview Have's" and the "Uptown HaveNots".
We are so tired of our police opting out of the regular Chicago Municipal Code and enforcing their own special creation that we've dubbed the "Uptown Municipal Code."
We need a new policing strategy along with this new Commander.
Herding crime toward the HaveNot zone and ignoring it may work great for 80% of the district, but it does not work so well for the 20% that is on the receiving end.
She should be at the April 1st CAPS meeting, that would give everyone a chance to feel her out and see what her priorities are. What do you think Jami?
