Beads, Baggies, Bongs...And A Shout-Out

From the News-Star:

Alderman Helen Shiller, 46th, was credited as one of two aldermen who derailed the ordinance at last week's City Council meeting, touting that it would criminalize a legal activity since the tiny bags are also used to store beads.

The proposed ban was deferred to the City Council's Health Committee. City residents can safely carry their fuma beads home from the craft store in the tiny baggies for awhile longer.

But one Uptown CAPS beat facilitator, who supports the proposed ban, reminded News-Star of one Uptown character who was arrested last fall with 23 of the tiny baggies filled with crack-cocaine stuffed in his mouth.

"Twenty-three rocks," the source said. "That must be some kind of record."

Blog quote of the week:

Comment posted by "Uptown Guy" regarding City Council's proposed ban of the tiny baggies used to sell small quantities of crack, heroin and marijuana:

"If we ban the baggies, won't the head shops, like the one next door to (46th Ward Alderman Helen Shiller's) office need to go next? Uptown is the only place in the city where you can buy a bong and visit your alderman in the same block."

  1. And let us not forget Mayor Daley's campaign poster prominently displayed next to the 3 foot hookah in the front window of Smoke Dreams, the head shop next to Alderman Helen Shiller’s office that we tax payers spend over $675,000 in salaries and expenses to fund each year.

Does someone have the link to the You-Tube video and photo that was posted online during the Shiller/Daley campaigns? I'd love to see those again.

The baggies are SO obviously the problem in this scenario.

  3. If the federal government would just legalize pot, then we wouldn't have this issue.

  5. Chickens, Pigeons and Baggies. That's my alderman's legislative history.

How embarassing. She can't even be a normal nutcase and work on foie gras like the rest of the lakefront liberals.
