Wilson Yard: Shrouded In Fog And Mystery

Fog was seen hanging over the Wilson Yard site this morning. Maybe this fog was hiding the construction equipment and unseen progress? Maybe not. We think its high time for either Alderman Shiller's office or Mr. Holsten to issue a press release stating why this lot is still sitting vacant. We're quite certain Holsten Management peruses UU on a regular basis. Inquiring minds want to know.

  1. You know these articles about WY construction start really make your blog look silly.

We all know construction hasn't started and probably won't until fall(if then). We are not blind.

And the fact of the matter is WY is out of the control of any of us that like it or don't like it so why dwell on the negative.

I don't mind the lot being vacant frankly.

  2. Spring I mean. LOL.

    Fall is probably more accurate.

  3. I kind of don't mind it being empty either. There is no housing being built that most of the people on this site oppose and a big better-fit-for-the-suburbs store that will worsen traffic on Montrose.

  4. UU - I ..unlike "anonymous" LIKE the wilson yard stuff..gives me a good laugh

  5. UU is simply reminding us that the word of our dear Alderperson cannot be trusted.

  6. Anonymous 12:41,
I think these "articles" are meant to highlight the fact that there is NO COMMUNICATION whatsoever regarding this continually delayed project. Is there a problem in regards to breaking ground? Fine, at least say there is a problem. The lack of communication is what most residents find frustrating.

  7. DITTO!!!!

It's terrible that we can't trust the timeline. It's worse that there's no communication about the delay.

  8. Anon 12:41,
Don't you have phonecalls to be answering in the Alderman's office? You shouldn't be playing on UU.

You couldn't pay enough me to answer the phone in an Alderman's office or be an Aldercreature in this town.

I won't want to deal with all the babies that haven't traveled or lived anywhere besides Uptown, Chicago and all they do is complain.

I don't like WY but I don't like a lot of things but I chose not to complain on and on about the same things.

Frankly, I don't like Aldi's in the hood either. It's trash I won't shop there.

  10. You haven't tried the cheese rice cakes at Aldi's. They are delicious!

  11. C'mon, let's be realistic here. There is no construction on Target cause there won't be a Target! Otherwise Target corporate would have confirmed the construction of the new store. All that has come from Target headquarters is that they know nothing of a new store for that location.

Whatever deal Holsten hoped to get with Target has obviously fallen through.

I would expect this to be made public soon. WY development is going to have to be redesigned. Nothing is going to be built there for at least two years.

  12. Nicely put.....Nothing is going up!

  13. I like that Uptown Update keeps track of the dates that Holsten and the Alderman say construction will begin and then call them out when the deadlines are passed. I know these dates have passed several times, but I would never realize how many times it has been or to what extend they have "fibbed" to us about supposed "contracts" unless someone with more energy than me was pointing it out.

Keep up the good work. And keep laying the documentation trail. One never knows when it can be used in the future.

  14. I hope the Target is scratched. They should put up new restaurants and local retail, instead of a big box store, and a Red Line stop so some of us can stay away from the Wilson one. (Yes, I know this won't happen)

  15. I agree with many of the posters. The articles about WY and other incidents of non-action in the ward are indeed about something very important: accountability.

Someone needs to remind Shiller first, and developers with large promises second, that they are ultimately accountable to the community in which they operate. Thanks UU for helping to do that.

Shiller doesn't care, Holstein doesn't care. The City Council doesn't care...about you.

If you want change you have to have money and candidates to fight for your causes.

  17. Target is coming... Target is coming... Wooopie, Target is coming.

  18. By "whoopie", you mean crap. And that is what the target coming amounts to

  20. I still say that target's tone and position on wilson yard HAS gotten more positive recently... i think there is an INKLING of hope...

  21. Even if Target does come, it doesn't change the fact that Alderman Shiller is the... worst... Alderman... in... the... World!!!
