Uptown, Suzanne Needs Your Support

A local Uptown woman, Suzanne Elder, is running for State Senator, 7th District and she needs our help and support in these last few days before the election. Check out her campaign website for info on the issues she feels are important, such as TIF reform and pay-to-play politics, all of which play a huge role in the way things are done in our ward. If you can volunteer time on election day please give her office a ring at 773-751-1205 and if you haven't done so, get out and vote!

  1. Dear 7th Senate District Neighbors,

We’ve got two well-informed senatorial candidates seeking our support.

It’s clear that Suzanne Elder has the leg up in experience when it comes to work on grassroots, neighborhood-based issues.

The “Elder Advantage” is that she also brings strong experience in state legislative work on initiatives that matter to us. Suzanne Elder’s understanding of the problems with and her vision for reform of TIF oversight, taxes, marriage equality, and public education funding are a winner.

Finally, and most important of all, Suzanne Elder’s commitment to ACCOUNTABILITY to us, to the voters – and not to political luminaries with clout and fat wallets – makes this an easy choice.

That’s why on Tuesday I will vote for Suzanne Elder.

Punch #36 on the Democratic Ballot.

    Peace, Michael J. Harrington

  2. Hey UU readers, here's your chance to mold your future: Any amount of time you can offer to the Elder campaign on election day would be greatly appreciated from the 'Broken Heart'.

There's lot's of things you can do. You can make calls to last minute voters. Work as a poll-watcher. (Truman College precincts needs YOU). Hand out palm cards in front of a precinct. Call and e-mail your friends to get involved.

But most importantly, please, get out to vote people. You can make a difference in how Uptown is represented in Springfield.

    Please, punch 36!

  3. As a longtime colleague who has watched and benefited from Elder's policy making with respect to businesses, as well as noted her exemplary work with The Care Act, I avidly support Suzanne Elder's candidacy. She is a person of uncommon range and astonishing integrity, and exhibits passion and drive in all aspects of her life. A vote for Elder is a vote for vitality, follow-through, and honest representation.

  5. And I voted for my neighbor, Suzanne. So I guess we cancelled each other out.

  6. I'm not voting for either of these leftist Chicago Democrat cardboard cutouts.

Elder has earned my ire in particular for her utterly revolting public statements on abortion. Re-research that lousy paper, Suzanne.

  7. Heather has earned my ire in particular for her utterly revolting website statements to kill all the sea gulls.

  10. If Suzanne is supposed to represent her community - where has she been all these years? If she’s supposed to understand and represent me she certainly hasn’t been out fighting the battles important to me and I would assume most everyone who reads this board. She lives in Uptown yet I don’t ever remember seeing her at any CAPs or safety related events. I’ve never seen her take a stand on Wilson Yard. Has she been involved in any community improvement campaign? I’m not everywhere but I’ve never seen her at a clean-up, community beautification (garden planting, etc.) I know at least Heather is involved in her immediate community of Edgewater. I agree both are too left for me but I could never vote for anyone who shows up one day and say’s vote for me without ever lifting a finger to help in major community events. She may have been busy with other battles so then I must assume this will probably be the case when she’s elected. Her priorities will not be mine.

  12. Until I see the Democrats around here start to do some house cleaning, I'm not voting for a darned one of them.

I'll be writing in my dog.

  13. Well, Shiller endorsed Heather Steans. I guess I have no choice but to vote for Suzanne.

  14. Holy crap. Do yourselves a huge favor and lose that youtube video. A be-hatted douchebag interviewing a screeching harpy. What a wonderful campaign piece.

Out of curiosity, how many decades ago was Suzanne's campaign photo taken? Check that; I don't want to know.

Republicans are corrupt and evil and Democrats are whackos and airheads. I suppose I should be thankful that in Chicago I only have to choose to between a whacko and an airhead. Four choices would make my head explode. What a country.

  15. Then ask for a republican ballot then and stop bitching you moron.

How's the weather in your world?

Can't deny that the people in charge are screwing things up, and those people are and have been Democrats for as long as they'll let you remember.

The GOP ain't for crap in Illinois, so we're kinda' screwed.

I'll stop bitching if you promise you'll stop lubing up and rolling over for a bunch of criminals.

  17. A little off topic but did anyone vote at the Stockton School this morning and deal with the woman with the peeling hands? Please, wear gloves if your going handle my id and such. I almost threw up my frosted flakes.

  18. Yeah, it was a bit gross but probably just a bad case of Psoriasis. Still, it didn't look very hygienic. She also had a problem finding names in the book. And I thought I spoke fairly clearly. Guess not.

  19. Damn. I voted for Suzanne before I watched that video. Ha. That dude in the beginning does more harm than good for her campaign. And "Virtual Democracy?" It sure FEELS like Democracy, but it's really not. How about "Simulated" or "Artificial" Democracy?

  20. Elder's getting rocked 2-1 with 50% of the precincts reporting.

    What a shock.

At least she made it on the ballot, I suppose, unlike that clown Peoples from last years' 48th Ward aldermanic race.

  21. I guess your vote for Edler didn't cancel my vote for Heather out. LMFAO
