Chi-Town Daily News

Police are looking for a man who attacked a woman with a bottle early Saturday morning in the 1300 block of West Winnemac Avenue.

The 24-year-old victim was walking to her car from the Argyle El station around 2:30 a.m. when an unidentified man came up from behind her and started hitting her in the head with a glass bottle, police said.

The attacker ran off as the woman began struggling and screaming, police said.

The victim was taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where she was treated for a laceration to her forehead and a broken finger.

Police have no suspects.

  1. She should have run to the Alderbeast's home at 1248 W Carmen around the corner.

  2. I just wonder why a woman is walking alone at 2:30 in the morning. Not that she was asking for it, but it doesn't seem very smart to be out, alone in the wee hours of the morning (even outside of Uptown).

  3. It says she was leaving the Argyle el station and walking to her car. Perhaps she was going home? I don't think it's unreasonable for a woman to be using public transportation and then driving by herself, no matter what the time. Is she supposed to request a police escort?

For real. This isn't Kabul for G-d's sake.

And, I know plenty of women who could hold their own in these situations a hell of a lot better than I could! The continuing perception of women as weaker or more vulnerable only exacerbates crimes like these.

  5. Agreed that it's actually legal to be alone and of any gender at any time of day or night. The problem is not with the victim/victor.

Can't help pointing out that if this had been positive news, there would have been a (mostly inaccurate) rush to say that this part of the neighborhood is "Andersonville, not Uptown"
