Meanwhile, Just South Of Us On Broadway...

Work will begin soon on this mixed-use development housing a new Dominick's and condominiums at 3030 N. Broadway. The site was home to the Dominick's that burned a while back. What differences can you spot in this development versus what we have coming down the pike in Uptown?

  1. More of the same mess in Uptown, it's sooooo sad!

  3. i bet the neighbors think they're going to be able to enter the building from the front

  4. They have a committee that's allowed to make decisions about the types of developments that go in. If the committee didn't like the looks of a project, Tunney would make them change the design.

  5. The 46th Ward has a committee that approves development in the 46th Ward. Helen handpicked them just as she handpicked to whom the Dept of Planning community survey would be sent. I know because I, living a block away from Wilson Yards, asked for surveys for my building and was told I was not on the alderman's list of survey recipients.

  6. "Just south"? Come on, that's a bit of a reach. Comparing that block to the Wilson yard is tough to do.

Would I love Wilson to get to that level someday? For sure.

  7. Colin I don't that was the point of "just south of us on Broadway" The point of the post is to show (as I'm sure you know) that development of grand scale is going on in the city, just not in certain parts of Uptown. Howard St. near the Red Line looks nicer than Wilson does. There is so much construction and development going on there at a rapid pace.

  8. And I know that Howard isn't in Uptown in case any smart asses out there were going to comment.

  9. It may actually be "just south of us" when you remember the southern-most boundary of the 46th Ward ends near Broadway and Cornelia in Lakeview.

  10. Fair enough. I was just pointing out that, while geographically close, that area might as well be miles away

  11. It may be development on a grand scale, but it's still ugly as sin.

  12. That's a great design! Would you prefer more McCondos with red brick and cheesy balconies?

  13. What exactly is great about the design?

  14. One doesn't have a gigantic Target logo, but they're both equally ugly.

  15. I'm not thrilled with that design either, but at least there are storefront windows and it looks more conducive to promoting foot traffic. I'd take that over the Wilson Yard proposal any day.
