Is it safe to that time of the night?
ReplyDeleteIts just as safe as any other part of Uptown. Hope to see you there!
ReplyDeleteyes, it absolutely IS safe there that time of night
ReplyDeletecome on people your paranoia about safety is silly - just have a street about you at all times and if you are uncomfortable, get a friend to attend with you I have lived in uptown for more that 25 years and the only time I was bothered was when I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings - when I lived in Lincoln Park in the early 80's I felt more at risk than at any time in uptown. so there thats my story and I am sticking to it.
ReplyDeleteI was kidding is it safe btw. Although Wilson is scarry and now it's summer more crazies are out. Some guy asked me if I was straight the other night I was like "what"? No I am told by a street smart friend that means do I need drugs. If I did like I would have bought them from this guy.
ReplyDeleteThe paranoia is a little bit much.
ReplyDeleteJust be careful, pay attention, don't have headphones on as you walk around, stay off the phone and you should be ok.
You can mugged or attacked anywhere. It is more likely at certain times and certain places than others but you need to be vigilant constantly.
At that time of night Wilson is loaded with people. The average crime going on there will be drug sales or turnstyle jumping at the station. Hell, if you don't know what you are looking for you can miss much of the drug dealing going on.
Yep, think it just boils down to simple differences in mind set.
ReplyDeleteDo you believe any/wrong solution is better then no solution? Or do you believe that the right way is the only way.
Shiller is an any housing anywhere is better then some housing somewhere. In my conversations with her she has told me that she would support 100 “less then perfect” units over 25 perfect units.
I respect it, just don’t agree with it.
Here's an interesting factoid for you:
ReplyDeleteThe Broadway/Wilson census tract ranks 5th worst of 21,000 Chicago census tracts for street robberies.
The 1999 Loyola law review article linked to below describes this robbery “hot spot” that has existed at Wilson & Broadway for 20-30 years. If things have gotten 10% better over the past few years, they still are unacceptably bad. Possible infrastructure causes for the pattern are also identified. Enjoy!!

Nice get together. Thanks to the organizers. We should do this more often maybe every other month and at times raise money for charity. Not SRO though!
