Check out the 46th Ward website for recent updates regarding the Farmer's Market and even the date AND time of the Wilson Yard task force meeting. Could they be listening? We are glad to see slightly more pertinent information on the website.
That's a great start. Even better would be minutes, which would include attendance and votes on decisions made at the meeting by the task force. The history of this task force has been that members have not been allowed to make decisions. It's existence only gave a false impression of community participation. Maybe down the line, Shiller might even consider following the lead of other aldermen and have these meetings held during the early evening hours in order to encourage more resident participation.
Block club representation from the block club that is located within the Wilson Yard would be even better. Control needs to be given back to the community rather than solely in the hands of one alderman and one developer who has contributed more than $10,000 to her campaign.
I'm sure this has been discussed to death before, and if someone could point me to it I'd appreciate it, but who in the world thought an Aldi's with a liquor license would be a solution to Uptown's problems?
The Farmers Market is still during the day. People who work 9 to 5 would have to take a day off work to participate. This point is still falling on deaf ears.
Although the Market is still at a time most residents could not even attend, the fact that its even LISTED on the ward site is a step forward, in addition to the Wilson Yard Task Force meeting time being posted. We realize our ward was very late to jump on the internet bandwagon but these latest attempts at posting updates is a small step in the right direction. Now if a block club would like to come forward and start another market or festival, we're pretty sure the parking lot across from the Aragon is available when shows at the Aragon are not in session. Email us for more info.
I'll likely never see any of the vendors at this years market because of its schedule, but based on what I've read about last years, looks like I probably won't be missing much. Oh well.
