In order to make reading and commenting on posts a bit easier to follow, we are no longer allowing anonymous comments. It will take you one minute to register with "Blogger" and then you will be on your way to sharing your thoughts on issues affecting our neighborhood. We will also be deleting comments we deem vulgar or questionable in an effort to keep posts on topic. Our intention is to make "Uptown Update" a place for legitimate discussion on issues that affect all of us.
sounds like something the city council would do or helen shiller. censor what you don't want to hear.
ReplyDeleteFurther I am starting to see how petty people are in Uptown that claim they want change but don't want to raise hell with HS over WY or SRO's. I don't think Block Clubs are going to change anything. You have to fight to get anything accomblished and you can't sit back and make nice with everyone. I see a lot of people on these blogs wanting change but no one has the gutts to hire an attorney and go after the City to get answers. Are you afraid of HS?
ReplyDeleteI think it is pretty obvious what we will be watching for. We have been very lenient when it comes to commenting and it was getting out of hand. We are referring to the 1% of posters who are trying to derail legitimate discussions by making outrageous claims. We welcome the views of everyone, BUT they need to be presented in a manner that contributes to the discussion at hand. If this doesn't work, then we will start moderating comments before they are posted. We're sure most will agree with this decision.
ReplyDeleteI moderate the comments at my blog too. Not that I get many.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is more serious though.
I think it is a good decision.
If anyone doesn't like it too pirate bad. Tell em' they can kiss my peg leg.
It's a blog I doubt this will change things in Uptown too much. Seems like now one knows or wants to get the bottom of things i.e. WY and Target.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! I'm glad to see this change!
ReplyDeleteWe also hope folks realize that you can still make your profile non-public.
ReplyDeleteKeep fooling yourself into believing blogs can't change the way things are done. And we'll keep blogging to prove you wrong.
ReplyDeleteI hope blogs can but I don't think HS reads these or gives a damn about us Condo owners in Uptown.
ReplyDeleteUptownUpdater- to make things easier to follow, can you please be more tranparent. Just curious to know your connection to Uptown??
ReplyDeleteMy guesstimate: M-W, lived here 3 years, from an upper middle-class suburban community, real estate developer, would rather live in Lakeview, but Uptown promises quicker investment return???
Did this new policy come out the attacks on me, or other issues?
ReplyDeleteIf it's mainly about those attacks, i would rather people deal with it one-on-one. A personal issue should be dealt between people, not virtual anonymous ID's.
And if you are "defending" me, please do not attack others -- get to know them as people.
Please feel free to e-mail me at jp (at) uptown-chicago.com
One last thought -- the publisher certainly has a right to deal with it as they see fit.
ReplyDeletepersonally i think it shuts some people out who are otherwise forced to sign up with yet another account , and may discourage people from posting.
Enabling "moderate comments" is a different option (i think IrishPirate has that), so you can post true discussion & dscard the rest.
Anothe roption might be setting up an e-mail link with a specific address to handle such requests (maybe Uptown Updater can then cut & past those kinds of comments).
Just some ideas
IDS-
ReplyDeleteYou are wrong on all of your assumptions. Keep guessing! And we will try out the
"no anonymous posts" for a while and if it does not seem to help, then we will moderate as we deem necessary.
Why does JP Paulis think he is a stakeholder in Uptown? Does he live here? Does he own here? What is his connection? Is he one of Shiller's puppets?
