Commemoration Ceremony Set For Monty The Piping Plover

It's been a very sad past few weeks for some of the beloved animals of Uptown.

We were so sad to hear of the passing of Rosie, the Buena Park Pig, on May 5th.

And then came the unexpected death of Monty the Piping Plover on May 13th, and the 2022 non-appearance of his mate, Rose.

Chicago Piping Plovers has announced a ceremony to celebrate the joy brought to Montrose Beach and Chicago by the appearance of Monty and Rose, and their celebrated offspring. It will take place on Wednesday, May 25th, at 6pm.

From the website:

"A commemoration of our times with Monty, Rose and their precious family will be held on Wednesday May 25 at 6pm, at Montrose Beach. The commemoration will be held in the area between the Dock restaurant and Michigan Lake, by the fence that separates the public beach from the new habitat expansion (now unofficially The Monty and Rose Habitat Expansion, as they were the trigger for its creation).

This will be a simple gathering, friends of the Piping Plovers reuniting to celebrate our collective experience with them over the past few years at Montrose and Waukegan, sharing fond memories of their times in Illinois, supporting each other in our loss and encouraging all to honor their lives by promoting conservation.

We hope you will join us. See you on the beach."
