It's illegal, but we all know that fireworks have been popping all week, and will probably continue through and after Independence Day.  In a community like Uptown, where we've all heard way too many gunshots over the years, it can be disconcerting.  If you have any doubts about what you're hearing, call 911.  Let the cops sort it out; that's their job.

A good reason not to be complacent:  An Updater wrote in tonight to say, "Saturday, June 30th at 6:30pm, we heard three consecutive gunshots.  My husband took out the garbage and saw on Hazel and Sunnyside three people being questioned by the police, and bullet casings on the ground.  A parked car was hit."  Chances are, what you're hearing is fireworks, but don't hesitate to call 911 if you're not sure.
