The former "Pollo Loco" spot at Sheridan and Wilson has sadly been sitting vacant for some time now. We wonder what restaurant our readers would like to see here? Arby's? Chipotle? Wendy's? Chick-fil-A? Sonic? Potbelly? Five Guys?
Come on, we know you have an opinion...
Five Brothers!
ReplyDeleteI think you mean "Five Guys," Jon. We added that to the list. Thanks!
ReplyDeletePatty Burger! I <3 that place downtown. Or a brewpub like Revolution in Logan Square.
ReplyDeleteI tried to look into getting a Panera into our area (for me I was thinking the abandoned KFC at broadway) but when I went to their website they said they are no longer taking location suggestions. I would also love to see a corner bakery up here.
ReplyDeleteHorizon, Nookies, Francesca... if one must have a faceless national chain, then Red Lobster. ( It will complete the malliing of the northside after Walmart comes.)
ReplyDeleteWhat we need to think about is who has a typical drive-thru type restaurant? I'm not sure I've ever seen a Chipotle or Five Guys with a drive thru, or even as a stand alone building. It's a shame that Popeyes didn't come here because that would've kept an Uptown business open AND taken a property off the market.
ReplyDeleteThat corner would be far better off bulldozed and in its place, a 3 - 4 story building with apartments or condos, and first floor retail. Maybe when the economy picks up...
ReplyDeleteBut I'd settle for a Chick-Fil-A...
Al's Beef, Portillos!
ReplyDeleteChipoltle or a drive thru starbucks! I knew that place wasn't going to last...Wilson and Sheridan isn't ready for panera yet so one of these will do.
ReplyDeletethat corner is really not great for anything with a drive thru. it's very tight and a pain in the ass. Sonic on the north side would be great.. but again..it's too small for something like that.. and i can't see the car hops dodging bullets.
ReplyDeleteany chain without the drive thru would be a great addition.
My vote would be for a Potbelly or a Portillos.
ReplyDeleteI, too, say Potbelly or Portillos.
ReplyDeletePortillo's!
ReplyDeleteCHURCH's Chicken.. and for a good reason..
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lisa and Jeff, better than corner stays gray and shuttered until something better comes along.....
ReplyDeleteDrive thrus in the city are assinine. Especially near the lake.
I think the space is too small for a Portillo's (which I'd love)
ReplyDeleteI'd REALLY love a Chick-fil-A!
Truth be told, any new restaurant has to be able to withstand the onslaught of drunks, criminals, gangs etc etc that gravitate around this intersection.
i really loved j.j fish that up before la ciudad. i wouldnt mind a KFC
ReplyDeletewhite castle!!!jj fish! itd be cool if they made that the FIRST sonic in chicago..
ReplyDeleteArby's is in an economic downturn and they don't have many restaurants in the city due to high rents and demand. There's a Wendy's down Lawrence not to far and they are closing stores too. I think a KFC or Chick Fil A would work. Both are known brands and cater to a wide variety of interests. Diverse fast food for a diverse neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteA Church's Chicken would be great, their chicken rocks!
ReplyDeleteA Guardian Angels office offering food for the soul
ReplyDeletePortillo's would be awesome but Chipotle would be great too.
ReplyDeletefast food chicken?
ReplyDeleteugh...
KFC makes me laugh, it reminds me of an onion article that stated that KFC is no longer allowed to call their products food.
http://www.theonion.com/articles/kfc-no-longer-permitted-to-use-word-eat-in-adverti,2733/
Oops no its the word eat....
Most fast food chicken is horrible, Ninos Morse Gyros has awesome chicken though....
Thanks for leaving your suggestions...now email the businesses you'd like to see here! Any business website has a CONTACT US link and they can be reached from there.
ReplyDeleteIt needs to be leveled and redeveloped.
ReplyDeleteTwo drive-thru fast food joints are too much for that one corner. Declare McDonald's the winner and move on.
Or maybe something like a Caribou Coffee or other business that doesn't need so much parking and can convert part of the asphalt to green-space for outdoor patio?
I'm with the leveling it and starting over crowd. I like Jeff's suggestion the best and to second Littleton's point about removing one of the two suburban style fast food joints - this could be a great opportunity to start restoring the overall feel of the streetscape and neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a donut shop attached to a CPD substation
ReplyDeleteWhat Jeff said x100
ReplyDeleteChick-fil-A
ReplyDeleteTo all those who think Chick-Fil-A would be a good idea, please check out the depths of their bigotry. They take their profits and use it to harm LGBT people. http://equalitymatters.org/blog/201103220005 Do you really think that's a good company to be in this diverse neighborhood?
ReplyDeleteWHITE CASTLE!!! Perfect.
ReplyDeleteKfc,Portillos,and Johny Rockets.
ReplyDeleteA police station should be there... if not, a Subway or a Chipotle.
ReplyDeleteno drive-thru ANYTHING ... this property should be fully utilised with something built to the curb & multi-storey in height (4-5 stories minimum).
ReplyDeletethe mcdonalds on opposite corner also should be razed & rebuilt in similar fashion ...
its sad to see the current state of the blocks between the el & sheridan road where buildings once stood shoulder-to-shoulder now stand alone with parking lots surrounding them.
The alphanumeric guy has it the most right overall.
ReplyDeleteA restoration to the original use and kindof buildings at that intersection especially would be most desirable.
XOCO Great Food but really long waits. Rick Bayless needs to expand! Come to Uptown Rick
ReplyDeleteIvy they do have a JJ Fish on Sheridan and Sunnyside in that strip mall there can't miss it.They should put a Chick-Fil-A,Sonic would be good.Culver's or even a Steak and Shake would do.
ReplyDeleteNope, Dark Prince, check again.
ReplyDeleteJJ Fish turned into La Ciudad about 18 months ago. No mas.
Screw Chick-Fil-A. Their owners routinely give money to anti-gay and anti-woman causes. We don't need that kind of hate in our 'hood.
ReplyDeleteCaribou or Steak 'n' Shake... or both. Our neighborhood is long overdue for a Caribou, or something that isn't a repeat cookie-cutter of the countless businesses we already have too many of.
