Temporary Parking At Truman Parking Garage

From Ald. Shiller's office:

"Between now and Monday, February 7th, area residents may park their vehicles in Truman College's new parking facility. The new facility can be accessed via southbound Racine Ave. from Wilson Ave. Residents may park on floors 3, 5 & 6 between today and Monday, February 7, at 6am. There is no in & out access between the hours of 11pm and 6am, but you may leave your vehicle parked in the facility overnight.

Residents may only park in the facility AFTER obtaining a permit from Alderman Shiller's Ward Office, 4544 N. Broadway. Once again, these permits are only valid until 6am on Monday, February 7th. At that time, residents parking in the building with this permit must move their vehicles.
Permits will be given out on a first come, first served basis at the ward office. Identification must be provided to show ward residency. Our office will be open this evening, February 3rd, until 7pm this evening for residents obtaining passes. We will resume normal business hours on Friday; the office will be open from 9am-5pm.

Please phone our office at 773.878.4646 with any questions you may have."

  1. Do the parking permits have "Vote for Don" on them?

  2. This action by the Alderman's office makes perfect sense.

I am going to enjoy my little fantasy that there is no alterior motive and just assume this is in an effort to help Uptown Resdients and Streets and Sanitation out in a very difficult time.

    But...this IS Uptown!

  4. When I went to pick mine up, I asked, "So, is this to help get the Maryville lot and surrounding streets cleared more easily?" The person at the desk at the alderman's office said, "They're doing us a solid." I'll take that, I guess!

  5. political motives or not... I am very happy to have my car out of the shit storm, a.k.a. Uptown's untouched roads.

  6. It's too bad there's no in and out access between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., as I normally get home from work between those times.

  7. "Solid?" Is that anything like a "favor?" Can somebody please translate into English, or at least "Chicagoese?"

  8. I wish I could take advantage. My car is parked on Racine just south of there but it might as well be a hundred miles given that the street hasn't been plowed yet.

I miss the days when Ron Huberman was a city bigwig living on my street :-(

  9. "Solid" is a favor.

Not typically in use in standard "Chicagoese". More common in NYC and other such ungodly places.

  10. According to the 46th Ward website, the parking lot near Aragon is open for residents to park for FREE until next Tuesday. Check w/ the Alderman's Office to be sure.
