Burglary Suspect With Knife Shot By Cops

Via Chicago Breaking News:
A Chicago police officer shot and wounded a 36-year-old man who police say lunged at the officer with a knife early this morning after he broke into another man’s Uptown apartment, police said.

The suspect was being treated at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, but his condition wasn’t available. The officer wasn’t hurt.

The officer and his partner responded to a call of a criminal trespass in progress in the 4900 block of North Kenmore Avenue shortly before 4 a.m., police said. The suspect had forced his way into the apartment of a 64-year-old man and threatened him with a knife, police said.
The officers approached the suspect and told him to drop the knife, police said, but the suspect lunged at them with what was described as a large chef's knife. One of the officers shot the suspect, police said.

No charges were filed against the suspect by mid-afternoon.

Also see CBS 2's story, and yes, our coverage has been geared towards the blizzard. Now back to our regularly scheduled crime, already in progress.

  1. Hilarious (and AWESOME) that CBS 2 cites you as their normal source! I appreciate your Snowmaggeddon local coverage UU :)

P.S. glad the cops got this guy. Good job CPD, weather and all! Hope the home resident victim is ok.

  2. Curious that a media outlet would cite that a local blog hadn't covered a particular story.

Maybe CBS2 is happy to have finally scooped UU on something ;)

And, not to sound too terribly biased, but what other "major Uptown blogs" are there?

Regardless, this knife-wielding Rhodes scholar obviously didn't heed the warning in "the Untouchables" about bringing a knives to gun fights.

Thanks to the CPD for getting that point across.

  3. Nice work CPD!

Entering an apartment where a suspect is still present is seriously dangerous work.

    Thanks for protecting Uptown!

  5. I'm glad the CPD officers weren't hurt, but this is still sad, in many ways.

  6. First off,

There Uptown libertarian is really more of a person pushing political views around, I try not to read it.

Secondly, sad?!?! This is excellent, only thing sad is that it will probably happen again next week.

  7. Sad? Sad? What's really sad about this is that they only wounded him ,that they didn't kill him.
