Argyle's Renaissance Continues: 1101 W. Argyle Scores Building Permit

1101 W. Argyle (Compass Architecture)

We told you about the plans for the 6 story development at 1101 W. Argyle (at Winthrop) back in November 2023.

As with most things city-related, it moved at a turtle's pace.

We are happy to report that a building permit was finally issued yesterday for a 5 story building (Eds.: possibly removing the 6th floor setback seen in this rendering?) with 16 new units

There will still be a ground floor retail space and interior parking for 8 vehicles. The project is listed with an estimated cost of $5,000,000.

The parcel has been cleared for some time now so we expect construction to begin very soon.

We look forward to welcoming new residential and commercial neighbors to Argyle soon!

  1. Why do these buildings have to be so ugly. Why can’t they look classic

  2. I agree with you. The "old style" of buildings and the character they reflected are turning more into "L.A. Styling" instead. With this new junk, it's harder every day to define are city as Chicago anymore. Welcome to "West Coast Bougois."

  3. The continuing homogenization of Chicago.
    Because that's what Argyle needs:
    More whiteys moving in.

  4. Fairly easy to complain with it’s not your money :). I prefer this over a trash-strewn vacant lot or the previous building 100%.

Also worth recalling how “classic” is ever shifting… yesterday’s new designs were also complained about as not being classic enough

  5. Are you sure this is not a medical clinic building? Where's the emergency room?
