UU Note: For those who are not familiar with Agudas Achim, the synagogue has been deconsecrated and closed since 2008. The synagogue board made the decision to put the building up for sale in 2012.
It was - like the Uptown Theatre - both magnificent and decrepit. There was a hole in the roof, causing great damage to the interior, and pigeons had taken up residence.
The historic items that have been removed have been placed with other synagogues and/or are being held for safekeeping by Preservation Chicago.
