Weiss Hospital To Get New Owner

A healthcare investment group, TWG Partners, has reached an agreement to buy Weiss Memorial Hospital and two other hospitals from Texas-based Tenet Healthcare.

The group is headed by Dr. Eric Whitaker, former director of the Illinois Department of Health and former executive vice president at University of Chicago Medicine. The hospital, which is Uptown's largest employer, will be managed by Pipeline Health.

It's probable that we won't see much of a difference at Weiss; Tenet acquired it in 2013, which went mostly unnoticed. The sale is expected to close by the end of the year, pending regulatory approvals.

You can read about the deal at Crain's Business. No financial terms have been revealed.

  1. Oh no not again! This is like the 3rd buy-out. Weiss is my hospital (sometimes) and I just hate that they keep changing hands. maybe U of C should come back in the fold.

    1. Probably not, as that was a partnership. U of C has since partnered with Ingalls, so they can't affiliate with everyone.

  2. Weiss has been fantastic with community outreach. I've been to skincare screenings, the farmer's market (closed, I think?) and really appreciate their inclusive rooftop garden. I hope these programs continue, as Weiss has been a great neighbor.
